I am a Social Worker with a passion for youth mental health and lived experience. Since late 2016, I have had the pleasure of working for batyr, which is a for purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people, for young people. At batyr, we deliver evidence-based programs in schools, universities and the workplace that aim to reduce stigma around mental health and empower young people to reach out for support when needed. We do this through lived experience storytelling and contact based interventions. Lived experience is something that is at the heart of everything that we do at batyr. Our comprehensive Being Herd program trains young people aged 18-30 to give a voice to their lived experience in a safe and impactful way, with many of them then going on to share their story as a core part of our programs. We also provide a platform for young people to use their lived experience to have a positive impact across a range of activities including advisory groups, co-design, consultation, media engagements and research and policy. As the Lived Experience Program Manager, I am responsible for overseeing the national strategy, operations and quality management of batyr's lived experience activities, including our Being Herd program. I am also a founding member and the current chair of the Lived Experience Engagement Network (LEEN), which was established by SANE Australia in 2017. I am also proud to be part of Suicide Prevention Australia's Male Suicide Prevention Advisory Group.
