'Hi everyone, I’m Mark Jones, Head of Technology at Commtech Translations, a UK-based B Corp–certified language service provider and member of the Association of Translation Companies. We participated in the first Reclaim course at the end of 2024, following on from our work with Magic Beans in a range of initiatives, including their Tech Club, which we love. 

We decided to join because it provided us with an opportunity as a business to consolidate the research and work we had already started in line with AI and language technology development. It gave us a chance to validate our progress and strengthen the foundations we had already built.

As an LSC/ LSP in 2025, it is no longer good enough to excel in language operations. 🤢 

You know it, I know it, we all know it. 💪 

It's blatantly clear - clear in the stress, the panic, the disappointment that we so often come across when people realise where they find themselves is not what they signed up for! 🥲 

That doesn't mean it's hopeless, but it does mean we have to change, to evolve. 💡 

Many of our LSC leaders come from a language or language operations background, they know the intricacies of providing great content for many locales.

But we are going through a time of great change, being good at the one traditional pillar of your business is not enough.

Previously the pillars of a good LSP were:

Project Management ✅ 
Vendor Management ✅ 
Quality Management ✅ 

In 2025, while we need to maintain these capabilities, I would argue the 3 more important pillars are:

Business Strategy ✈️ 
Fluency in Technology 💻 
Client Acquisition (Marketing & Sales - note the order in which I mention these) 💵 

From a business strategy perspective you need to be super clear on where your revenue will come from, excel at Customer Intimacy, and create truly valuable,  margin-generating solutions for your chosen buyers (Hint, you can't do this for all buyers, so choose carefully!)

For Technology, we are living in the tech era (again!), but the pace of change is shocking and we suffer from info overload and paralysis. It is essential to have people on your team who embrace the tech, understand it, hell, even enjoy it.  and that's not everyone! Every company in the world is being told to use AI to get better results, you and your team need to be tech experts, quite frankly, and as a leader it is up to you to upskill them.

For client acquisition, you know already how hard this is. Most LSPs sound exactly like each other. This needs to stop, as it encourages commoditization and a race to the bottom of the barrel.  Clients are hyper distracted and constantly cold-called. You have to stand out using clear, value-adding content. and provide valuable experiences for your prospects. Luckily there are more resources out there now to help you with this than ever before.

So,

Hi, my name is Raisa McNab, and I’m CEO of the UK’s Association of Translation Companies (the ATC). I have a lot of conversations with language service company owners and managers and, of course, quite often our discussions turn to AI and the different types of challenges and opportunities that exist in a fast-moving and rapidly changing language services industry.

With AI, and with the diversification of solutions, the emergence of different technologies, and new types of services, we urgently need to start providing consultancy to our clients rather than working on a word-by-word or minute-by-minute basis. 

A key element of this is the upskilling not only of ourselves as senior managers and business owners, but of our entire teams.

That is why the ATC has partnered with Magic Beans Agency to conceptualise and deliver Reclaim, which is now in its third iteration. This third course helps language service companies upskill their entire staff, figure out how to transform their business models, have more fruitful consultancy conversations with their clients, and, of course, implement the right tech mix into their service offering.

Reclaim 3.0 starts on 19 September, and if you haven’t yet taken the course, I strongly recommend it. It’s a great way of bringing your entire team along - not just your salespeople and senior managers, but also your project managers and the rest of your staff - to understand what’s possible and to move towards new avenues, solutions, and services with a positive mindset.

DeepL, currently valued at $2 billion, has launched DeepL Agent, marking its entry into the enterprise AI market and setting up competition with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic.

DeepL Agent is a computer-using agent that mimics human behavior with virtual keyboards, browsers, and mouse controls. It responds to natural language commands and can automate multi-step business workflows, such as building sales account lists, translating and publishing website content, analyzing data, and solving complex problems. 

The tool is designed for enterprise use across sales, marketing, customer success, and localization, with early tests showing teams save hours of work by automating routine tasks.

DeepL aims to differentiate itself with a European privacy-first approach. The company has built multi-level safeguards that give users, administrators, and management control over outputs. Enterprises can add “stop and check” protocols or require human-in-the-loop validation for critical actions. This emphasis on data protection and security may be a key factor in winning enterprise adoption.

In short, DeepL is evolving from translation services into broader enterprise AI, leveraging privacy and security as its competitive advantage.

The sheer amount of investment in generative and agentic AI we are seeing, means, to a large extent, that future outcomes are inevitable.

All of our jobs will change.

All of our departments will change how they operate.

And the skillsets we need, are also changing rapidly.

LSP owners now need to upskill and reconfigure their teams in order to remain relevant, value-adding and profitable.

🤯 Feeling overwhelmed by AI? You’re not alone.

A new LinkedIn survey shows just how much the pressure to “keep up” with AI is weighing on professionals at every level:

🔹 AI feels like a second job: 

51% say learning AI feels like “another job” on top of their role. Mentions of feeling overwhelmed by change on LinkedIn are up 82% this year.

🔹 Confidence gap: 

A third (33%) admit they feel embarrassed about how little they understand AI, and 35% feel nervous talking about it at work.

🔹 Impact on wellbeing: 

41% say the pace of AI change is taking a toll on their wellbeing. Gen Z feels it most – and are nearly 2x more likely than Gen X to exaggerate or even lie about their AI skills at work.

The takeaway? AI is a technology challenge – and it’s also a confidence and wellbeing challenge!
