As a software architect at PCH, I was responsible for creating highly scalable performant architectures, for the different PCH properties, from simple websites with dynamic data to real-time applications for hundreds of thousands of concurrent players, at the same time keeping sites and APIs secure to prevent fraud and data theft.

PCHWincredible is a real-time trivia game that allows hundreds of thousands of players to play for a cash price at the end of the quiz; frontend created using Unity and backend using Websockets and Redis Pub/Sub for instant communication of questions, answers and decryptions keys.

PCHRewards is an exchange platform to convert PCHTokens into sweepstakes entries for Giftcards and Prizes, similar to an NFT Exchange with similar technology to Blockchain.

PCHMultiOnboarding is a platform to take users through a customized journey where they can register, play games such as Slots, Lotto, Keno, Scratchcards, Opt-in and all PCH resources. System flexibility allows to have a library of components, pre-compile and render multiple combinations of customer paths.

Created real-time analytics dashboards for all games, including Search&Win revenue and common search phrases; traking user activity across websites, with exact metrics using Redis Counters and Sets, probabilistic metrics with Redis HyperLogLogs and Bloom Filters; and finally hundreds of different Leaderboards using Redis Sorted Sets for live and historical purposes.

Staff Software Engineer / Architect

As a Technology Lead I was responsible for 3 business units a PCH: PCHSearch&Win, PCHFrontpage, and PCHKeno. Also created reusable APIs like PCHGuidedSearch, PCHGoogleBigQuery for Real-time analytics and tens of libraries and APIs for internal usage.

Created new platform based on the Laravel framework and using Redis as primary datastore for all PCH properties, improved baseline response time from 400ms to under 50ms, reducing hardware footprint from tens of webservers to under 10 per website; moved from propietary NoSQL JSON database to Redis to optimize cost significantly.

On the PCHKeno website built from scratch using AWS managed services and Continuous Integration/Development (CI/CD) DevOps practices, ability to support hundreds of thousands of concurrent users.

Converted website from Perl to PHP and improved performance by 100% reducing load time from 800ms to 400ms, added Single Sign On (SSO) functionality as well as integrated with multiple backend systems from the Search Results Engine to display links and Ads in the Search Results Page (SERP), internal digital currency in PCH Tokens, Instant Win Engine for Prizes and the Sweepstakes Engine for large prizes announched in TV for $1M, $5K/$7K/$10K a week for life and finally created a Content Management System (CMS) for webmasters.

As the founding Technical Director of WEBDCG from 2006 to 2014, I led the development and delivery of over 100 web-based software solutions for clients across North America in diverse sectors, including education, retail, finance, and government.  Leveraging open-source technologies like the LAMP stack, Python, and PostgreSQL, as well as cutting-edge tools like Redis and MongoDB, we tackled complex technical challenges, designing scalable architectures and implementing ETL processes for large-scale data management.
