Agile 8 Annual Firm Trip 2024

It was really a great day to see my colleagues having fun with white water rafting, waterfall expedition and all terrain vehicle (ATV) in Phuket. 

Well, we will be closed until Tuesday.

Uncle Robin will be back too, later. 🫡

Really missing a few more colleagues whom couldn't join us this time.

5 years has went by so fast.

We will be celebrating 5 years anniversary in October. 

Again, gratitude to my networks whom had walked with us and supported Agile 8 over the last 5 years. 

We will always be grateful. 💯🙏

1 cent nugget - It's a long Ride

24 years ago, my wife and I got together. Time passes and while I was in Phuket celebrating my annual firm trip, we kinda took a pit stop to take some photos for memories. 

Starting Agile 8, 5 years ago was a bold decision on my part. 

My wife was a stay home mum and my girl was 5 years old.

However, I didn't want to work to death in Corporate, and yet I didn't know How my wife grew old, and my daughter grew up. 

In fact, making that decision was premised on 3 key decisions

👉  I had enough savings to tide my entrepreneurship for the next 24 months

👉  I had colleagues, clients and network whom told me that they will support me wherever I go

👉  My wife and daughter were willing to eat porridge and bread with me so long it was needed

A day became two, a month became 12 months. 

As I am into the mood of celebrating Agile 8's coming of 5 years anniversary, it felt nothing short of being in love Again.

Remember, when we are in Corporate, we work for money and position.

When we are an entrepreneur, we work for Ourself (colleagues and clients included), our Love and our Cause.

There is also a sense of Purpose to what we Do. 

Don't forget it.

1 cent nugget -Family? Nah

They says we don't come to office to look for family. 

You bet. I would think so too. Why would you. 

We work, we earn and we learn.

That the Purpose. 

However, when we can connect and become part of a story, That's a different ball game. 

Remember, we are not here to make family.

We are here to build a Legacy....together

There are some Who says - Don't help to build people's Dream. Nah.

My question is - Not everyone gets to build their Dream first. 

Help others first and then learn from it. 

Who knows those you help may help You in return, to build Yours.

Nice flowers there right. Yes, I said to the receptionist. 

Well, how long do they last, I casually asked.

About 6 days or so. We throw them away once one of the petals starts to turn brown. 

I see. So one petal will result in the whole bunch of other fresh flowers to be thrown.

Ah, that's how retrenchment is too. 

Just that there is over capacity in one department, and then the whole department is closed down. 

The rest either are given an opportunity to move to a less well paid position or a far flung position in Artic.

I notice that there were some departure of great LI content creators and seems that nothing has changed on the LI landscape. 

Well, there you go. 

No advice is Indispensable and so is our content creators. 

We are just one of the millions here. 

Most importantly, I just want to thank my LI friends who have been by my side for the last 5 years. ❤️💕

We are here for a reason and once it is fulfilled, we may just go off like a brown petal.

I always like to be the underdogs. No pressure and just play to win.

Even now, I see myself as an underdog in a mature market.

How about you? If you are out alone, I know it is tough. 

For me, it is 5 years soon and counting. 

Remember, every dog will have their day under the Sun. 

Be Patient and keep going. Your Day will come.

1 cent nugget - It is a delicate Walk

After starting my Corporate in a legal firm, I realised that I was lacking in many department.

My English proficiency was inadequate, my technical interpretation of the legislation as well as spoken English.

I felt so inferior. 

I felt so useless and worse of all, I wasn't sure if I should have come at all.

Then W came by and asked me Why I looked so down and reclusive.

After a cup of machiato, she laughed at me..you are so silly.

Huh?, Why are you laughing, sister.

Then she explained that it is normal.

Once a while, I am not so sure about you, dearest LI friends here. 

However, feeling inadequate or useless is the worse feeling I can experience.

It turns out that all these feeling that I was undergoing was a good thing.

Can you imagine I was ignorant about the fact of my competency, how would I improve.  

How can I change to be better.

In Life, everything is a delicate Walk.

Some steps on grass, while some walk on glass.

Some got Parked, while some got a walk in a Park.

See, My English has improved isn't it.

1 cent nugget - Love you, sunshine 🌞

Seeing the sun and admiring it was practically impossible, when I had started my corporate job where I would need to start early before seeing the sun and often end up late at night years ago.

Yes, in between lunch was always a quick meal and then back to work. 

Rarely, I would walk around back then 27 years ago in central business district as there were not many place to chill at lunch.

Unlike now, business district is so much more integrated with many retails and residential amenities all tied in. 

So trying to soak in the sun was not really a thing to do at least during my time.

Now, it is about work life balance and equivalent. Good for mental health, I say.

But where do we begin, or end with this mental health thing. 

For that, the younger generation can debate about it. 

For me, I just continue to work as hard as I can for now, and hopefully enjoy the better times later.

As an entrepreneur now, I hate to say it - is that I am under the sun often. 

Besides running from meetings to meetings, maybe also from playing golf at times with my friends and ex colleagues.

What I am saying is that, there is no loss to us in whatever we do. We win some, we lose some, they say.

But staying in the game allows us to continue to enjoy the nice stuff when we are at a later stage of our career or age.

I often ask my colleagues, we can either enjoy our life now and suffer later or we can suffer now to enjoy your success later.

Success may not come in monetary form but rather the friends and family surrounding you. 

Sometimes success is being able to do more meaning things like charity or humanity work.

Have a good Tuesday, while I enjoy the sun for now. 

And the downside now, is I am getting more freckles.....like they say, we win some, we lose some.

What a lovely morning today. Finished a short 8 km and I could not feel more Alive. 

In business, we often talk about legacy and longevity. 

My take is our business is only as healthy as You, the entrepreneur.

It was such a great game I had last week. Met up with so many friends and accountants. 

I am so grateful to have an opportunity to participate in a charity golf organised by Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA).

Agile 8 may be small, however we try to do our part for certain causes. 

Being poor by birth is not a choice. Getting a good Education should not be determined by our family economic wealth.

We do what we can to help.

They say cameras cannot replaces what our eyes can see. 

Do you think that is true? 

Well, to some extent. At least they captures memories.

Yes, our eyes can see better in colours however not in darkness. Now a camera lens can do better.

After a day at my office, I was winding down with a beer in hand. 

I was very tired as I had spent the hours before attending a listed company's meeting.

My colleagues have went ahead with the event where I was supposed to go. 

When I decided to go for the event, it was almost close to 9 pm. I guess it was good to show my face out of respect.

As I arrived to the event, it was boisterous. People were still mingling and suddenly, a voice called out.

You must be Robin, he said and, We have heard a lot about you and your services.

I was like, Huh?

Then I realised my colleagues who came before me, had a good talk with these foreign dignitaries.

As this post reflects, Me alone is not competent. Nor capable.

Only when our eyes and camera meets, truly in unison, we complete a good photo.

And the same, as said - As a team.

Many would want to convince you to go for it. The course is good for you..Or the products. Or maybe the lessons.

When you went, you then realise that it wasn't suitable for you. 

Or when you use it, it may not have any effect too.

Now, do you go and complain, and whine about it, or do you change?

Same as in entrepreneurship. 

You see failure. 

At the same time, you also see success too, isnt it. Doing the same thing. 

Is this a fairy tale, Often I asked myself. 

Is there really a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. 🌈

Well, after going through a few years of entrepreneurship, I can only say this. 

It depends on How you see it. 

When we believe that going through the grind will have an effect later, things must happen.

Once we give up too soon, yes then whatever we do, becomes a History.

Only those who try to seek it, will eventually find it.❤️💕

Now Do you believe in Your Fairy Tale. 

Often, they have a great endings.

➡️  You always dreamed to be an owner.

➡️  You want a business where you can control your Life.

➡️  You wanted to do bigger things than what your boss can Do.

Well, is that a dream? 

Is that something achievable.

My answer after trying, for 5 years is Yes💪

👉  Do You have a safety net?

👉  Do You have savings?

👉  Do You have big Liabilities?

If No, then please stay where you are. 😪

You have a family to feed.

You have a housing and car loan to pay.

You cannot stop working.

Only when You have a safety net, venture Out.

Otherwise, You will always be Reacting. And that's a Wrong move ❤️💕
