I am a lifelong educator, who is passionate about helping people improve through learning and development. Early in my career, my favourite topic to teach was science. There is something beautiful in the process of exploring and learning about our worldâgetting closer to the truth but never actually ever getting there. These days my favourite topic is âcareersâ. Iâve been a career educator since 2018 and I realized all the ways I have enjoyed helping others improve through teaching: - growth mindset - self-advocacy - developing belief and confidence in oneself Can be done through careers. And unlike science, which isnât for everyone, and not everyoneâs favourite topic Careers interest many people I fell into this world of careers And it has felt like a perfect fit for me I love the learning and development world and tying it to careers is a critical way for any organization to strategically engage with their employeesâboth present and future ones. My favourite ways of engagement: 1) building programs which provide experiential learning moments for participants 2) facilitation, facilitation, facilitation--nothing more gratifying than supporting people in their own learning 3) creating digital engagement to scale career education and increase accessibility to new ideas My favourite topics to speak about? 1) LinkedIn â from profile building to learning how to write posts, I love sharing about how LinkedIn is a great tool for your career. My LinkedIn Top Voice designation represents my interest in this platform. Ex: this collaboration with Linkedin on how to utilize LinkedIn Learning 2) Self-advocacy â I am still learning how to advocate better but this is a skill that I feel is essentially for others to learn about Ex: watch the webinar I did for alumni UBC on self-advocacy - listen to my conversation with Get Hired LinkedIn News on self-advocacy (see my featured section) 3) Self-improvement and reflection - as a certified CliftonStrengths coach and an International Coaching Federation (ICF) associate credited coach (ACC) I like to help people improve using a strengths-based approach Learning and development done with a career development lens is the way forward for companies and managers to retain and develop their staff. I get to test this out in my current role as manager, Alumni Career Education. Reach out to me if youâre interested in talking more about career education and learning and development.
