While still working for this company I attended evening classes and gained a computer communications certificate. I joined Data world in 1998 and become an expert user of all leading GIS software, including ESRI Arc View 3, 8, 9,10 ArcSde, Arc Info and database software. During the Municipal Demarcation Board and Statistics South Africa projects, I was responsible for cleaning maps and data. I was also responsible for training and supervising temporary staff during both projects. I have worked on projects for Umgeni Water, Sappi, Richards Bay Minerals, Durban Metro, Pietermaritzburg TLC and Indlovu as well as the Municipal Demarcation Board, where I was involved in the demarcation of the municipal boundaries as well as the local ward boundaries. I participated in the assessment, demarcation and capture of the enumerator areas for Statistics South Africa. Additional GIS skills involve the utilization of Micro station software to digitize contours by scanning and vectorizing. I have been involved in extensive data cleaning, data extraction and database normalization and rationalization projects. My experience includes large, highly sensitive databases. The last 10 years I have been involved in mass appraisal, specifically general valuation projects (GVs) which include the major metros. I have over the past 25 years of GIS and data experience, been involved with many projects in the private, as well as local and national government sectors.
