In 2020, I signed up for LinkedIn as a student, not knowing much about it. A year later, after deleting my IG account where I had 30K readers (my first online community), I wrote my first post here, a story about grief. That single post changed everything. It took me 2 more years to be consistent here, but I worked with clients from 5 continents by that time.

I’m a Keralite proving that you don’t have to move to a city to build a global career. 

It’s been over 4 years of working in the comfort of my home. 

The 5 windows in my room open to our plantations, and the yard with flowering plants, and so many trees. 

There is no sound of traffic, other than that of birds and animals, and it’s so peaceful here. 

Some of my clients from abroad got to know how beautiful Kerala is while visiting me. 

They appreciate that a local countryside girl who was tech-illiterate until 18 years old made it big. 

By making it happen, I mean having a global clientele (24 countries). 

While so many peers from cities envy this lifestyle, I’ve had some people ask me this: “Why don’t you move to the metro city? You might get better opportunities.” 

What kind of better opportunities, I don’t get it. All I see is chaotic city life, with more pollution, hard water, and whatnot. 

I’ve had enough of it while traveling and staying briefly at many cities. 

And my business is remote, and I earn way better this way. 

Building a local business is great. 
Building a global one is also great. 
And, building it remotely is great as well. 

You know what suits you best more than a stranger online.

People praise that I close 5k-8k deals now. But everything started with a $60 gig.

I didn’t have a mentor.
I used my phone to work.
I lost 10 kgs due to anxiety.
I had nightmares every night.
I saw the true colors of many.
I was told to marry a rich guy.
I realized money matters a lot.
I lived in my old, damaged home.
I was grieving my father’s passing.
I had an 18-day toxic job experience.

Those days made me strong. 

And 2 kinds of people remain the same:
1. People who learn from my experiences.
2. People who always ask for tips for easy money.

I celebrated my first milestone after I earned my first monthly 6 figures in January 2022.

Ever since then, I have come across both kinds of people.

I hesitated to talk about money for a long time because of the second kind.

But if you are the first kind, I wish to have you in my community.

And I wish to see you grow along with me.

Money will not solve everything, but it removes many fears that stop you.

I hope everyone looking for the perfect moment will start with what they have, even if it looks small 💚

PS. In my ideation & strategy phase to turn all the processes and systems that worked for me to help others. I won't hold back on it in 2026.

I had my first and last pizza of 2025 recently. 

I mostly eat clean, and I prefer home-cooked meals. 

But not every client is like me. 

Some eat junk food almost daily, but work out hard. 

Some eat the way it makes me feel like I should be more health-conscious. 

A few eat too much sugar, junk food, don't work out, and say, “I’ll start working out soon”. 

And a few others ask, “We only live once, right? Eat whatever you want, and consider your fat like a trophy.”

I'm a LinkedIn Marketer and storyteller, not a fitness coach. 

But I hear or learn these preferences in brainstorming sessions with clients. 

The differences are loud and clear. 

They don't think like me. 
They don't have my beliefs. 
They don't share my values. 

But, still, I'm able to write in their voice and to grow their LinkedIn presence. 

The point is, stop obsessing over hiring people who think like you. 

So many people are greedy to hire people like them. 

But eventually, they realize thinking similarly is not what helps a strategist grow their clients.

So hire for skill, clarity, and adaptability. Not similarity.

That’s what moves your brand forward.

I’m 65% introverted, but my first public speaking was when I was 4 years old, in English, which isn’t my mother tongue. 

I hosted a show with 2000 people as the audience when I was a teenager. 

I was never shy on stage and enjoyed talking to the crowd. 

I was the school chairperson. I presided over many functions. 

My college professor, who always degraded me, complimented me once, “You would’ve done better as a lawyer”.

I enjoyed group discussions, debates, and any competitions that needed me to talk. 

I played dramas, was in group songs, and never once called shy unless at some family gatherings. 

But many people think that being calmly introverted means being shy. 

There are shy introverts. But some introverts are loud and good at talking. 

I’ve coached and worked with 100s while being in a closed-off stage in my life. 

Some said I’m funny. 
Some found me gentle. 
Some said I’m too polite. 
Some consider me warm.
Some said I inspire them. 

The other side of the coin👇

Some said I’m intimidating. 
Some saw me as awkward. 
Some saw me struggle to talk.
Some talked to me on days I stuttered. 

And I struggle a lot when it comes to speaking for a video thank talking in person. 

But all of these people only saw my phoenix version. 

Most of them don’t know that a very vulnerable experience changed the way I think, interact, write, and live. 

I spoke at a local event in Malayalam this weekend and was welcomed by loud claps and whistles. 

Then I realized that I had missed it for years. 

Someone I have known for 3 years asked, “You were a public speaker? Unbelievable”. 

And despite new people in my life not knowing who I was, I still feel grateful 💚

This is a month I’ve a lot of new activities lined up. I’m willingly stepping out of my comfort zone. Hope you will make it too:)

Your stories don't sell. But can you stop blaming the algorithm?

Almost everyone on LinkedIn tells stories.
But not all of them manage conversions.

That’s where 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 comes in.

Here’s how to do it right 👇

1️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲
Start with a scene that your reader sees themselves in.

→ "I used to work 10+ hours even on weekends, not having an option to take breaks.”

2️⃣ 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Spark a feeling like curiosity, nostalgia, hope, or even fear.
→ “But a random YouTube video made me realize that people half as skilled as me earn more while working less.”

3️⃣ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Tie that emotion to your offer or message.
→ “Within the next 6 months, I quit my job, built a portfolio, and landed my first 5 clients…”

4️⃣ 𝐂𝐓𝐀 (𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐭𝐨-𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧)
Guide your readers on what to do next, without sounding salesy.
→ “I’m hosting a live session on the basics soon. If it feels relevant to where you are right now, sign up.”

When so many people think only success stories sell, brilliant storytellers sell through silly, honest, human stories.

They talk about childhood, that savage colleague, or even a grandma from school days, and still sell without selling.

Unless you’re creating content just for joy (or already too rich to care 😅), don’t just tell stories.

2 years ago, my client paused posting on LinkedIn, saying LinkedIn is useless. 

He came back. 
We started posting. 
We resumed commenting. 
We began lead generation. 
We are growing his personal brand. 

He came back to the same platform, he said was useless because: 

-Competitors were rocking here. 
-He burnt money on lead generation. 
-Clients asked him why he wasn't active here. 

If you think this is a useless platform, the same platform is:

-Changing the lives of many.
-Helping businesses grow. 
-Getting many dream jobs.

I don't want you to regret like my client did. 

Start building your brand here, even if it’s not comfortable.

If I ever overdo CTAs, remind me of last week. I’ll touch the grass and be good.

I had the most vulnerable week, and I didn’t work at all. This was the first time in my career. I was hardcore emotional, and coincidentally, got sick too. 

So I didn’t work. I posted on LinkedIn, wrote for healing, and binge-read.

Last Thursday, I added a small CTA on my post. It was to invite Indian clients to collaborate because I didn’t have a retainer Indian client this year.

I honestly expected less than 10 submissions, especially because I did not emphasize it enough.

When I checked today, I realised I got 27 new responses. I skim-read and could disqualify only 3.

Some reached out with a meaningful why.
Some shared their goals with so much clarity.
Some people have been following me for years.

A lot of my peers have asked me why I rarely add CTAs to my posts. It has been like this from the beginning. I add them only when I actually have the need. And surprisingly, it works. 

Because when you keep adding sales-focused CTAs on every post, it loses its significance. Occasional CTAs build far more trust.

Your Personal Brand will work for you even when you are sick or sleeping.

But only if you invested in it to reach that phase.

I announced a webinar on my most overwhelmed day this year.

This year, I wanted to launch cohorts and webinars, as my community anticipated.

But I couldn't, as I had other priorities.

That didn’t make me think, "I’ll do it in 2026".

Instead of doing nothing, I chose to start with a small giveaway webinar with Keralites.

It happens tomorrow at 8 PM IST. 
Cohort programs will go live in February 2026, and I’m finally excited to offer personalised coaching to the people who’ve been waiting for it.

I love slow living, but December looks nothing like it.

And I realized that you will never magically be free to do the things you want to do.

So if you want to do big things, start small. Doing something small is way better than doing nothing.

I’ve a list of topics and areas to discuss on webinars in 2026. If you wish to be a part of it, tell me the topic you would like me to discuss.

Despite investing 5 months in Personal Branding, my client was disappointed.

Or let’s say, I was made to feel like I failed her.

She was extremely sensitive to judgment, and on Day 1, she told me,
“I don’t want people to think I’m too bold.”

I realized she wanted to play it safe. 

Her life story is inspiring. 
She has a lot of achievements.
She gives back to the community. 

But she didn’t want any of it on her posts.

So her growth was slow, and she was comfortable with that.

I respected her pace. 

It was after the 5th month that I couldn’t stand it. 

Instead of listening, I spoke for 40 minutes.

And she said, “Okay, let’s try that for a month. But don’t push me hard”. 

In the next 30 days, I wrote 20 posts that reflected her real persona.

She was scared of judgments, trolling, and criticism.

None of that happened.

But something else did.

We saw a sudden positive shift in her metrics.

And over time, the quality of the leads improved as well. 

So we now keep going with the same strategy, though she needs my reassurance at times. 

That just confirmed again that playing it bold takes you further and faster than safe play ever will.

People hated me for believing in God. 

People liked me for believing in God. 

Some hated me for my values.
Some liked me for my values. 

Some hated my simplicity.
Some liked my simplicity. 

Some hated my honesty. 
Some liked my honesty. 

Some hated that I said no.
Some liked that I said no. 

I’ve been writing online for 9 years, and I was unapologetically myself. 

Some people like it. 
Some people dislike it. 

But I was able to generate leads and convert clients. 

And I crossed the milestones I thought I would cross in a decade in a year. 

So many personal brands try to thrive with safe play. 

They are scared of controversy. 
They fear criticism. 

So they wear a safe play mask. 

But if you dare to remove that mask, you can grow better. 

The majority of posts on LinkedIn are safe content. 

And safe content doesn’t have the fuel to take you far. 

An exception is a solid positioning. 

So, if you sense you are safe playing here, try doing the opposite. 

It’s scary, but you will grow better when you don’t play.

I recieved 32 DMs when I told not to DM. That says why many people struggle without opportunities. 

Last week, I shared that I could refer freelancers to my clients.

It was not a job posting.

But a zero fee referral option. 

And I added one small request, "Please fill the form instead of messaging me directly."

I believe that's fair as I'm not in a position to chat every details with everyone interested. (especially in the busiest month of the year)

Also, sharing the form responses directly to clients makes it easy. 

But even then, 32 people DMed me.

Some simply said “Hi”.
Some requested calls.
Some sent AI paragraphs.
Some shared samples without context.

This is not to call anyone out.

But it reminded me of something I have seen repeatedly while working with founders and executives.

Most opportunities are lost not because of lack of talent, but because of how people communicate.

Clients notice:
• whether you read instructions
• whether you respect boundaries
• whether you follow a simple request
• whether you make their process easier

These small things matter more than people realise.

If you are a freelancer or creative, remember👇

Your skills open the door, but your communication determines whether the door stays open.

Please master how to respect boundaries and communicate well. 

That might solve half of the issues if you don't hear from potential clients.

One of my clients is Grammy-nominated, but was too shy to mention it. 

I don’t support bragging, but oppose not talking about your achievements. 

Because most of us aren’t that famous that our potential clients know it. 

Though she cringed, she let me add it to her profile. 

Nothing big happened in a day, week, or month. 

But we started noticing a shift in the DMs received. 

They offered better & relevant opportunities. 

A significant reduction in the amateur DMs. 

And over time, she got featured in many newsletters, posts, and was invited to podcasts. 

Being humble is nice. 

Being humble that it affects your positioning is not okay. 

PS. The irony is that’s something I’m working on 🥲. I cringe every time I try to talk about my professional achievements.

My Personal Branding client asked me this in Q1 2025.

He wasn’t impressed, even after Riya worked hard to build him a solid engagement strategy.

The reasons were simple:
1. He didn’t want to leave agreeable comments.
2. He only wanted to comment on viral posts.
3. He needed instant results.

But the same person didn’t invest time to help us build his own voice.

So only safe-play commenting was possible.

We eventually parted ways because I explained clearly that this approach won’t work.

It’s Q4 2025 now, and guess who left 3 agreeable, generic comments on my posts?

The same person.
Just rebranded.
Hired a VA.

People resist the basics until they realise the basics were the strategy.
