"Data node redundancy in Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Networks #DePINs"

DePIN spans over a broad space, covering services such as decentralised computing to sensing as a service. In the Sensing-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, independent sensors deployed over a vast geographical area across boundaries collect data from the physical environment and write the sensed information on the chain(#blockchain) to be consumed by the user. 

In #DePIN on-chain data verification is easy, but off-chain data verification is not so easy:-
On-chain data verification is easy with the notion of digital signatures, whereas off-chain data(sensed data) verification is difficult because of the following prime reasons:-

1. What if the data source is corrupted (sensor reading erroneous value due to faults)? 
2. What if the data source is compromised (sensor sending stale data)?

if there exists a scenario such as the above, the information written on the chain will be unfit for consumption. 

So, what are the possible solutions?

Redundancy - Introduce more than one sensor from more than one independent body for a geographical location. The more independent the data source from a location more is the data reliable. 

What are the challenges to this?
1. How will we motivate stakeholders to deploy sensors?
2. Incentives for data availability and trustworthiness.

What sort of attacks are possible to this?
1. 51% attack.
