It's one game after another.

Some say give them more than they expect. Others say give them less. Some say save a few bucks. Others say spend a few more and surprise on the upside. Maybe leave room for negotiation. Or use the delta for a signing bonus. It goes on and on.

Such an unnecessary dance.

Do the direct thing. Start the relationship from a point of clarity: Publish the exact salary in the job ad. That's the number. Fact, not fiction.

Anyone applying knows what they're getting, and you know what you're spending. There are no silly moves, no 4D chess matches, no one side trying to outplay the other.

Atlas is the robot familiar from past demonstrations—subject to kicks, punches, and various tests of resilience. He’s been made to run and perform tasks under stress.

It seems we might expect an announcement about a new platform soon—whether human-like or not.

Boston Dynamics isn't letting the grass grow under their feet. Just a day after they said goodbye to their old hydraulic robot, they've rolled out a new, electric Atlas.  🤖 

This one’s got more tricks up its sleeve than the last one, boasting a bunch of swiveling joints that make it ideal for the tough jobs no one wants.

This new Atlas isn't just a rehash. It's built to outperform humans in flexibility and strength. 💪 The unveiling was something else—starting with Atlas in a heap on the ground, then twisting and rising like something out of a horror movie, but also kind of charming in a weird way. 🤷‍♂️ 

They've given it a more human look, too, with longer limbs and a head that turns. And it's smarter, loaded with the latest AI, ready to handle whatever you throw at it. 

Boston Dynamics is testing it with some big names, like Hyundai, and it’s set to shake things up on factory floors where it’s going head-to-head with robots from other companies. 🙌

Another week, another trouble for Apple! Now, they tried to get rid of a UK lawsuit about App Store fees and lost. 🤷‍♂️ 

In London, a judge ruled on Friday that Apple must face claims it unfairly charged over 1,500 UK app developers high commissions, as much as 30%. 💵 

The lawsuit, led by Sean Ennis, a professor and economist, argues Apple had too much control over app sales on its devices.

Ennis's lawyers argue that Apple abused its market position, demanding damages for these practices.

Globally, Apple has faced criticism over these fees. They claim that 85% of developers on their platform pay no commission. Changes have been made in Europe allowing downloads from alternative sources, and in the US, following a legal battle with Epic Games.

At a January hearing, Apple's lawyer argued that UK developers can't claim fees not charged through the UK App Store. Judge Andrew Lenon dismissed this argument, suggesting Ennis's case about international fees could be relevant in the UK. 

By the way, Apple is also entangled in another lawsuit concerning defective iPhone batteries, potentially affecting around 24 million users. 😶  Both cases are expected to proceed to trial no earlier than 2025.

Meta's betting on its upgraded AI model, #Llama3, to outdo ChatGPT. 🤔  Llama 3, they claim, tops other models in key areas and excels at tasks like coding.

Mark Zuckerberg believes that with Llama 3, Meta AI could become the world’s top free #AI assistant. In the U.S. and other selected countries, Meta AI will be more visible, showing up in places like Instagram’s search bar. The assistant now integrates real-time search results from Google and Bing and has improved its image generation capabilities. 🖼 

Meta is rolling out the AI in more English-speaking countries and plans further expansion. Zuckerberg sees this widespread deployment as a step toward reaching Meta's global user base. 🙌

Researchers at the Beijing Institute of Technology, BigAI and Peking University have developed an innovative machine learning framework designed to generate human motion videos based on verbal instructions. 💡  

They introduced a concept called scene affordance as a bridge in the generation process. This strategy significantly improves the framework's ability to visualize and execute motions in scenarios that it has not been explicitly trained on, enhancing its adaptability and effectiveness. 💫 

The new framework, built on an earlier model named HUMANIZE, stands out for its ability to not just generate but also contextualize human movements within various 3D environments. 🌐  By processing scene affordances — essentially, the potential actions that parts of a scene can support — the model gains a nuanced understanding of how human figures should interact with their surroundings based on the given commands.

This enhanced understanding allows the model to perform well even with limited examples to learn from, making it a robust tool for applications needing high generalization capabilities. Potential uses include crafting more realistic animated films where characters interact naturally with their settings or creating detailed datasets to train robots to navigate real-world environments.

As the team looks ahead, they aim to refine their data collection and annotation techniques to capture richer interactions between humans and scenes. They also plan to speed up their model to make it more practical for real-time applications, broadening the potential impact of their work in the fields of #filmmaking, #VR, and #robotics. 🙌

Perplexity maintains a sharp focus: refining search technology without overreaching. This strategy distinguishes them in a competitive market where many companies attempt to cover too much ground. As a dynamic and ambitious entity, Perplexity is rapidly gaining traction, capturing both attention and investment. It seems everyone wants a piece of them. 🍕 

The demand for a revamped search experience is clear—people want direct answers, not endless pages to browse. Although current language models haven’t yet mastered this, Perplexity are pioneering the use of language models as advanced cognitive tools rather than simple data sources, highlighting the potential for a more decentralized future in search technology. 

This shift is particularly crucial in sectors like e-commerce and travel tech, where accelerating the customer journey is essential. 🙌
