In this 12 month industry placement I have been involved in, and occasionally personally managed, a range of building surveying activities including: condition surveys, defect analysis reports, roof inspections and subsequent reports, party wall matters and feasibility reports for clients from flats to high rise buildings and commercial buildings. I have worked in principal designer positions, along with taking on the role as a Contract administrator. I have also supported insurance companies, contractors and councils pave the way to a successful outcome.

Ridgeback Projects LTD is a full-service construction & design company that specialises in all aspects of residential design and construction
The company is RICS, FOMS and TRUSTMARK accredited. Being led by a strong group of professionals and a wide range of multi-skilled contractors working along side them. 
In my time at Ridgeback, I was fortunate to have exposure to both small and larger renovations and some new build projects. In which I was working closely with the majority of trades, which enabled me to acquire more knowledge surrounding the construction of properties; new and old. 
Ridgeback also further aided my teamwork skills, as there were a range of problems encountered and were resolved by teamwork.

Trades Assistant

DecklandBell

Deckland Bell is a consultancy which assists clients with commercial and residential property investment. 

My role is to ensure successful delivery of the projects by effectively coordinating the way with legal, architectual and development teams working together to meet project and client requirements.

My experience in this role has helped put real world context to my ongoing degree in Building Surveying at Brighton University. Furthermore, it will prove invaluable experience in my pursuit of a role in property development upon graduation.

Project Coordinator 

I-Kew Services

I-Kew Services Ltd provides commercial and residential fit-out. The company is CHAS and Constructionline Accredited and is managed by a team of professionals who have experience of some of the highest-profile developments in the country. 

My role at the Surbiton Apartments new-build project involved coordination of key material deliveries and allocation to correct installation points with reference to project plans.  Furthermore, working closely with site managers and foremen to construct solutions to specific problems that are found on site and assisting trades (brick laying, carpentry and screening).

This role has given me excellent first hand exposure to the process of a large scale residential new-build project, the roles & responsibilities on site and the importance of an efficient supply chain.

Lamberts Chartered Surveyors

Lamberts are a specialist firm of Chartered Surveyors based in City Road London and in Cardiff. They focus on providing agency, valuation, property management and building surveying advice. 

I shadowed qualified Chartered Surveyors and assisted in valuations and reports for clients with residential properties.  This experience has confirmed that I wish to pursue a career as a Chartered Surveyor.

Fidelity International

This was a formal program, an introduction to investment types and performance. This has helped me understand how property can be used as a fund investment.

At the Canon Street office I learnt about the different types of investment including mutual funds, pension management and had an introduction to the fund platforms available to private and institutional investors. 
We also had an introduction to investment trusts, exchange traded funds, shares and funds; and how they work. I shadowed managers in different meetings and learnt how the customer care function works at Fidelity. 

I was able to spend time talking to staff at the Cannon Street office about their day-to-day work and how Fidelity operates in a more global scale.
