Rupal Gupta, MD, FAAP is a board-certified pediatrician who currently serves as a Clinical Services Director with Kyruus Health, working to improve patient access to healthcare services and to build relationships between the business and its hospital clients. Previously, she was Interim Division Director of General Academic Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. She worked hard to build her team of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners, working to engage them actively in sharing their knowledge and concerns safely with one another in order to improve their practice experience. During the 15 months she served in this role, she was thrilled by the opportunity to collaborate across sectors, leverage and elevate the skills and abilities of her colleagues, and to create positive change for division as well as the hospital. She spent five years as Medical Director of Children's Mercy Hospital's Operation Breakthrough Clinic, an NCQA-certified Patient-Centered Medical Home co-located within a large Head Start/Early Head Start agency. This innovative cross-sector clinic offers primary care and developmental/behavioral care to children within the school and surrounding community. There, she served as medical advisor to Mid-America Head Start and participated in community patient education initiatives such as Sesame Street in Communities. Dr. Gupta is Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and is a Kansas state co-facilitator for AAP CATCH grants, and is also a member of the Academic Pediatric Association, where she is completing a Research Scholars Program fellowship. Her passion for community-based advocacy has led her to join state-wide QI initiatives for her clinic including AsthmaReady Communities, and she thrives when she can communicate health information to at-risk, high-need populations in an understandable, enjoyable way. Prior to coming to Kansas City, she was medical editor with KidsHealth and has been active in social media and has organized Twitter chats on a variety of topics with nationally recognized pediatric and health experts. Dr. Gupta is a classically trained Soprano, graphic designer, henna artist, and author of a personal blog in which she conveys her views as a pediatrician and mother (doc2mom.com; @Doc2Mom). Rupal received her bachelor’s degree in History and Science at Harvard University, her medical degree at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, and pediatric training at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Dr. Gupta resides in Leawood, Kansas, with her husband and two children.
