People often talk about AI agents, but very few understand the architecture that actually makes them work.

Before you build or deploy an agent, you need to know what sits under the hood - the layers that handle intelligence, actions, memory, orchestration, and user interaction.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what it covers:

1. Infrastructure Layer
This is the foundation - servers, containers, and monitoring systems that keep the agent reliable, scalable, and secure. Without this layer, nothing else functions.

2. Configuration Layer
Controls how the agent behaves. Developers set rules, constraints, and system prompts here, allowing updates without changing code.

3. Model Layer
Home to the large language models. This is the agent’s core intelligence, understanding prompts, reasoning through steps, and generating responses.

4. Tool & Action Layer
Where the agent interacts with the real world: calling APIs, pulling data, running scripts, or triggering workflows. This is what allows an agent to do things, not just talk.

5. Memory & State Layer
Stores short-term and long-term context so the agent remembers past steps, reduces repetition, and gives relevant outputs across tasks.
