In a fast changing landscape, now more than ever teams want to learn how to collaboratively create shared experiences. They want to have fun by consciously designing for behaviour change using proven methodologies. The Event Design Methodology using the #EventCanvas℠ brings teams in a state of play to design. A user recently described the #EventCanvas as “a super helpful analogue system to track the past, organise the present + plan for the future”. According to the founders of the Event Design Collective, it’s now time to democratize design. We are driven to enable everyone to use this collaborative team approach to create events that consciously change our world in the desired direction of change.

After launching the #EventCanvas in 2014, Ruud Janssen and Roel Frissen founded Event Model Generation which was the startup name for what has become the Event Design Collective GmbH together with Dennis Luijer. Together, they wrote the “Event Design Handbook, Systematically design innovative events using the Event Canvas” published in 2016 available in bookstores around the globe. In 2021 they published a second book called, “Design to Change - elevating your ability to look and act beyond the now”. 
Currently there are 13 EDC Program Accredited Trainers active in Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Russia and USA in the Event Design Collective. Within the next years they expect more regions and trainers to be added to the Event Design Collective.

Event Model Generation is the startup name of the Training and Consultancy organisation now known as Event Design Collective GmbH. We support organisations using design thinking for events to align their activities by illustrating potential trade-offs of their events.  The Event Model Canvas is a strategic management template for developing new or documenting existing events and conference models.
Building a thorough Event Model Canvas can be achieved through a 10 step #EventCanvas methodology where the team involved in the event systematically analyses, describes and outlines the inputs for the components in the final canvas prototypes. The methodology is sequential and makes use of a range of visual thinking techniques.

The Event Model Canvas was created by Ruud Janssen and Roel Frissen which builds on the visual framework initially proposed by Alexander Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas based on the earlier work on Business Model Ontology.
