Ryan Gensel is a twenty-five year veteran of the technology industry studying the patterns in a changing workforce and designing adapters to optimize the systems that connect people, process, and technology. Ryan has worked within enterprises (Apple), directly as an agency partner (American Express, Intel, NASA, NBC/Universal) and indirectly as a consultant through agencies serving a majority of the Fortune 500. As co-inventor of a patent on Business Intelligence, contributing designer to the "Big Book of Dashboards", Tableau Expert, and performance management leader, Ryan leverages his multi-disciplinary experience as a Data Visualization Scientist, UX Designer, Application Developer, Project Manager, and Management Consultant to design and align systems that produce business impact. He understands the demands, perspectives, and moving targets contributing to the pressures placed on workers throughout the hierarchy of an organization. The promise of being data informed is that it leverages objective evidence to influence decisions and balance intuition. However, the power dynamic within an institution can corrupt the interpretation and impact of data by manipulating its presentation and accessibility. It’s a myth that organizations don’t know what isn’t working, it’s often that individuals are not incentivized to acknowledge it and operationalize the changes to address it. Complex layers of competing interests, hidden agendas, and misaligned time horizons are a reality of the social dynamic of an enterprise, however it's only in recognizing the symptoms and mapping out the formal and informal systems that you can begin to diagnose and reduce the collateral damage. Several overlapping generations of workflow automation and data infrastructures have entrenched loyalties, broken promises, and fostered animosities that create resistance to change. When you're inside the problem, you're subjected to a cultural treadmill that is validating a status quo, where an institutional immune system fights against anything that represents change. However, when you're outside the problem your information is limited to that which you can extract and you're working on the culture through proxies. It's only with an integration of inside and outside forces that you can transform and prepare the organization to continuously evolve their processes and awareness to meet their adjacent business domains' challenges. Ryan has guided hundreds of organizations through their maturity/scaling journey.
