Future-Proof Assets is cross over program and an initiative of the  department of engineering and the department of urban management. The urban asset managers are on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam manager of the public space ranging from pavements, quay walls, wharfs and public green areas. As Director of Innovation it is her task to prepare the existing city and her assignment to the consequences of climate change, energy and raw material transition and the on-going development of smart city. The “Mediator of Innovation” is process role she developed to help regular projects in adapting and accepting uncertainty and innovation in their assignment. Innovations like Smartroof 2.0, Photosyntesis and CitySports are some of several pilot projects realized in collaboration with knowledge institutions and the business community.

The climate is changing, how is Amsterdam changing?
As a director, I support the team, help to translate new insights into action and connect the urgency of climate change and what this means in terms of safety, accessibility and equality of opportunity to the ambitions and tasks of the Amsterdam government. For this purpose I am part of the KNMI sounding board group. Due to climate change we are experiencing more extreme weather. We are doing everything we can to prevent further climate change. But it is already happening, so it is necessary to prepare Amsterdam and adapt to more heat, drought, flooding due to heavy rain showers and the risk of flooding. The need is there and action must be taken now. This way it remains safe, pleasant and pleasant on our canals, in the houses, offices, parks: in short, the city of Amsterdam.
The municipality and water boards are committed to preparing Amsterdam as best as possible for the changing climate. Various actions have already been taken and started in recent years. These can be found in the 2021 Implementation Agenda. That is a good start, but more is needed to keep our city safe and pleasant to live in. What we have achieved and how we are doing can be found in the 2022 Progress Report.

Polderdak is een prachtige showcase, bedacht en gemaakt door een geweldig team van GBC, Dakdokters B.V. en Waternet. Polderdak gaat saaie stadsdaken veranderen in levendige waterbergende, groene daken die meerwaarde voor de stad brengen op het gebied van water, groen, energiebesparing, biodiversiteit, geluid en luchtkwaliteit. En die bovendien een geweldige ondergrond bieden voor stadslandbouw. We hebben het eerste Polderdak gemaakt op het dak van Broedplaats Old School, Gaasterlandstraat 5 te Amsterdam en die is vanaf 24 oktober 2013 door iedereen te zien. Laat je inspireren, tot op het dak!

Amsterdam Roof Top Solutions

Laten we niet beginnen met de opgave maar met de oplossing. En dat is het dak. Wereldwijd 100.000 vierkante kilometer ongebruikte ruimte op de duurste plekken, de stad. 1600 hectare in Amsterdam. 160 hectare in de binnenstad. Een enorme rafelrand in de derde dimensie. 
Laten we vervolgens kijken naar de stedelijk opgaven die ruimte vragen. De zoektocht naar meer groen in de stad voor het vergroten van de biodiversiteit, verbeteren van de luchtkwaliteit, verkleinen van het stedelijke warmte eiland. De zoektocht naar meer blauw om een antwoord te bieden aan extremere neerslag door klimaatverandering en voor het bergen van water voor tijden van droogte. En de zoektocht naar zon rijke plekken voor het benutten van zonnewarmte en zonne-energie. 
Zo beschouwd wordt het stadsdak van goud. Reken maar uit, braak liggende daken zijn zo maar 100 euro per vierkante meter waard. Dat is 160 miljoen voor de binnenstad en 1,6 miljard voor Amsterdam. En 10.000 miljard euro wereldwijd!
