Carrots and sticks mean nothing when a leader’s direction could result in injury or death. But people do extraordinary things when they believe in the mission and have deep confidence and trust in their leaders. As an army officer I have had the privilege of leading specialist teams in high performance environments for nearly a decade – including in high-stress conflict zones, and at scale during a once-in-a-century pandemic. • I’ve built high-performance teams capable of achieving my vision. • I’ve wrestled with the weight of responsibility of leading over 100 people in a demanding environment. • I’ve even found strategies to keep life in balance when work feels all-consuming. Developing others, doing meaningful work, and making an impact in the world have always mattered to me. All of my career decisions have been shaped by this drive - both military and civilian.
