I am a human being and I am a free thinker. I am a poet and I like to study politics, economics, philosophy, history, literature and the arts in my free time. I attend The Vine evangelical church in Wanchai and I try to allow light and love of humanity to inform the way I live my life. I am also a lawyer qualified in England and Hong Kong, but currently I am in sabbatical and not practising law. Instead I am working on developing an organic farm. I have worked in international law firms and family offices for over 25 years, advising on a broad range of areas from establishment, operation and regulation of family offices through to family governance and succession, trusts and estates, disputes management, international tax compliance, family matters and reputation management. I have acted for some of the wealthiest in our global community, but I have remained grounded in the realities and challenges of everyone. I have given my technical skills to some of the wealthiest. However in doing so I have supported the proper discharge of social responsibilities by those with power and resources and I have supported NGOs tackling inequality and social injustices. I have supported industry as a conference speaker and an active executive member for over a decade of a global professional body promoting wealth planning, talent development and ADR in Hong Kong and worldwide. I am passionate about the social responsibilities of those with the education and skills to help operate a financial system that is fit for purpose to support communities and without corruption or money-laundering. I am a strong believer in ethical professional conduct and in respectful treatment for all, both professionally and personally, and adopting ESG principles. I believe that the law should be practised in the context of what the wider humanities teaches us, with objectivity but also with empathy and an emphasis on helping people to live their lives protected, happily and fulfilled in peace with kindness. I try to avoid the dark side and to show principled commitment to applying and enforcing the rule of law where necessary, whilst also recognising to err is human and merits compassion. I support Justice, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. I believe we should live sustainably in harmony with each other and our natural environment, respecting plurality of beliefs and views, but always seeking to find our common ground as a global community. I support the UK’s #LawSocClimateResolution and have given the pledge in Hong Kong to #mediatefirst
