I am privileged to practice law from the traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations); the Tsuut’ina First Nation; and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. I received my BA in Psychology and a Sociology in 2014 and my law degree with a Social Justice Specialization in 2017 at the University of British Columbia. Prior to attending law school, I worked in social science research on marginalized youth health and volunteered with a food bank and a legal advocacy non-profit assisting marginalized women and underprivileged students. I am a lawyer at Forte Workplace Law practicing in employment, labour, human rights law and workplace investigations as well as respectful workplace training serving employees and employers in Alberta and BC. I have previously practiced in regulatory, professional discipline, family, immigration, employment, and wills and estates, with a primary focus in administrative law, appearing before the Federal Court of Canada, Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, Provincial Court, and immigration tribunals. I was called to the bar on August 6, 2019 in AB and on January 20, 2023 in BC. I am a Member-at-Large on the CBA Alberta's Board of Directors, a Past Chair and Board Liaison of the CBA Alberta Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and a current member of CBA National's Equality Subcommittee. I am also a Practice Group Leader for the Regulatory & Administrative Law Group of The Advocates' Society, the Chair of the Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association, a Board member of the Centre for Sexuality and of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (Western) and a member Lawyers for Equity, Access, and Diversity (LEAD) Alberta. As a young mother and a racialized lawyer, I strongly believe in contributing to the legal profession in Alberta to help other legal professionals to advance anti-racism, diversity, inclusion, and equality. I am also currently a part-time student in the University of Calgary Master of Laws (LLM) program and my research focuses on administrative law & critical race theory. I have published articles on legal education in anti-racism, race, policy, ongoing colonization, missing and murdered women, sexuality, islamophobia, homophobia, and power in society as well as power dynamics in small groups, in peer-reviewed journals based on my social science and legal research.
