Managed 400 percent month-to-month media inquiry increase following COVID-19 public health crisis declaration. Developed media resources, including a County Public Health Order tracking map, graphics, videos, blogs, eNewsletter articles, messaging documents, fact sheets, and daily news updates to aid pandemic response.

Developed and executed broadband media strategy to secure $6 billion state budget package. Coordinated with five distinct legislative advocacy teams for strategic content development and media outreach, including written materials, video scripts, infographics, and social media toolkits.

Developed organizational and executive messaging platforms, editorial and speechwriting support for Executive Committee and association leadership.

Communications Manager

Dairy Council of California

Developed a statewide, multilingual strategic communications plan that increased summer meal location inquiries tenfold and was recognized with USDA Turnip the Beat! Award. Working with a coalition of local NGOs and elected leaders, crafted marketing materials adapted into seven languages; planned and conducted community events and press conferences; secured NFL-player promotional PSA; developed and executed bilingual social media strategies and promoted the launch of California Department of Food and Agriculture’s mobile meal-finding app. 

Researched and developed an organization-wide food access strategic plan that included a statewide food access landscape report, the creation of a new food access position, and a three-year strategic communications and partnership-building plan.

Launched the inaugural Food Waste Prevention Week in concert with the Nutrition Policy Institute and the Public Health Alliance of Southern California with support from California Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of Agriculture Karen Ross, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, and other leaders. Communications and outreach results were published in the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice.

Project Manager II- Communications and Food Access

Directed, edited, and evaluated all strategic internal and external communications plans, campaigns, and teams across the organization, including partnership efforts. Served as organizational brand ambassador following the launch of award-winning consolidated brand identity and CMS website.

Created organizational social media program, including official policy, compliance audit, procedures, channel and audience prioritization, editorial calendars, internal and external spokespeople training and development, influencer strategy including Twitter chats and blog carnivals, and healthy eating content campaigns for consumer and professional audiences. Sustained 20 percent channel growth year-over-year.

Wrote Family Meals Matter, a weekly recipe/meal planning column for McClatchy Tribune Content Agency, for more than five years.

Western Plant Health Association

Served as a primary media spokesperson for a tri-state agricultural chemical and biotechnology trade association, developing news releases, ballot language, blog posts, electronic and print newsletters, and messaging. Provided crisis communications support to member organizations and relevant national trade associations.

Directed the day-to-day operations of the California Fertilizer Foundation and school garden grant program.
