Kept teachers informed about changes in students’ behavior and accomplishments of specific students.
One deaf boy who was severely neglected emotionally and educationally picked up academic skills quickly after working with him on homework assignments. Worked with one deaf boy who was autistic by following a behavioral modification plan.

Notified deaf and hard-of-hearing people in community along with professionals serving them about accessible special events and mental health services, recommended places for special events and set up tables, provided information about mental health issues, recommended places to set up special events, Used knowledge of cultural and language needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing people to make revisions of training materials about mental health. Revisions were also based on their attitudes about mental health disorders and professional help for these kinds of problems.
Set up tables and exhibits for special events, provide information about mental health issues, and assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating special events by providing ideas and suggesting locations for workshops. Knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior for guidance was used to provide information about accessible mental health events. Recommended revision of one question for community dialogue for clarity and to help agency get better responses to that question regarding spirituality and mental health for statistical purposes. Recommended and worked with MFT Intern and Office Assistant III to coordinate materials and set up of booth at the Deaf Awareness Kick-Off Event in Riverside on September 19, 2015. Rescued her from a nursing home after her previous live-in caregiver dropped her off there without contact information and moved out of her home.  Arranged for friends and relatives to visit her so she could visit with other people.

Provided advanced clerical duties and had lots of responsibility for work performance.  Entered information from applications while applying knowledge about programs, policies, and procedures and reviewing them for accuracy at the same time.  Verified background checks for applicants and compared applications with moneys received from applicants.  Issued licenses and registrations, validated checks, and assisted customers by telephone and in person with completing forms. 
Also did basic arithmetic computations because sometimes the computer said we received too much or not enough money, and did computations to verify whether the amount of money received was correct or not.  Sometimes did advanced computations when receiving a group of applications with many checks.  Reviewed checks for accurate dates and written amounts before validating them.
Composed and sent routine and more advanced correspondence to in-house and external customers.  Obtained and provided information through the computer and by working cooperatively face to face or by telephone with the public and departmental staff.  Was able to resolve some discrepancies in applications via telephone and correspondence if policies permitted those modifications.  Provided high-quality customer service when handling phone calls and dealing with people who come to our building for services.  Obtained and recognized relevant and significant facts from written documents and computers for answering customer inquiries.  Replied to routine emails by providing relevant information from readily available materials and by referring to detailed legislative information. 
When a specific company often skirted our rules, those companies were reported to my supervisor and to people enforcing rules for those companies.  Researched new phone options to facilitate customer service so I could assist with rolling incoming phone calls on rollover lines.

Validated checks and forms, and also made recommendations for a database such as the size of fields and field names for various types of specialized mail. Was willing to work there an additional two weeks even though I was offered a promotion because my old supervisor asked me to do that.

Worked in homes and individual apartments with deaf MR/DD consumers. Worked mainly with deaf woman who had schizophrenia. Helped consumers with house chores, administered medications, and provided transportation. Counseled them, planned activities, monitored their behavior, and kept accurate records regarding what they did and how they behaved toward me and other people.
Counseled some consumers about improving their romantic relationships by explaining how to make agreements and create a win-win situation, and taught them the importance of eating healthy food and cleaning their homes. Worked with schizophrenic woman on her socialization skills and her behavior and monitored her on a behavioral modification plan.

Seeking position in the field of mental health in South Carolina

I am deaf, and I look forward to having a professional role working with the deaf and hard of hearing. I'm writing a mini-book about treatment facilities in California for dual diagnosis and D/deaf and hard of hearing people when I feel better. I plan to finish the writing and editing of my mini-book afterward. I'm looking into doing part-time and in-person work related to education or mental health and addiction issues in September. I'm also looking into part-time grant writing opportunities in North Carolina or South Carolina. I'm interested in a variety of topics related to psychology. I enjoy walking, dancing, surfing the internet, and video streaming. I also enjoy learning more about deafness and mental health topics along with watching inspirational videos.

I currently work part-time as a caregiver for my hearing husband, and I have worked with deaf and hard-of-hearing clients in residential and independent living settings. During a summer internship, I successfully set up a nutrition program for deaf and hard-of-hearing people who were learning how to maintain their own apartments.
