Web Application Developer

Commit

Beta testing features on the Commit social platform for Career Copilot (https://app.commit.dev) as a user who is actively job searching. 

A position to describe my ongoing professional association with Commit after transitioning from an Engineering Partner role to a full time employee of Scope Security in mid-2022. Commit maintains connections with all of its previous Engineering Partners, and we stay in touch by attending company wide virtual get togethers and communicating on their social platform (https://app.commit.dev). We also make contributions to the greater community's repertoire of knowledge by presenting concepts that we know or new ideas that we are working on.

Community Partner & Beta Tester

Commit is a community that places engineers well versed in the fast paced startup culture with Venture Capital-backed Startups. Through my tenure at Commit I had two startup placements (Planworth and Scope Security); the latter turned into a permanent position. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Completed a Hackathon Onboarding Project where the goal was to learn a new technology - I learned Swift and explored options for creating a Slack application
- Writing blog posts based on experience learning new languages and frameworks (Swift, Next.js)
- Mentoring new Engineering Partners who are in the process of completing their Hackathon Onboarding Project

Engineering Partner

Scope Security

Designing and optimizing the frontend UI of OmniSight, Scope's client-facing product for Security Operations Teams.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Design and update UI in Figma based on user feedback sessions, implement frontend changes using React and Typescript
- Creation and maintenance of the Figma component library across files, 
- Setup of Storybook and Chromatic for creation of a DesignOps workflow
- Maintenance of current front end components and architecture in the codebase; integration of new features and libraries for chart display, graph display, etc.

UX Engineer II

Planworth

Planworth is a fintech company that has built a financial services engine to generate projections of a client’s financial future over time based on market parameters and investment. I had a three month placement with Planworth via the Commit pilot program.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Created and maintained Frontend UI components across Client and Advisor portals using React and Typescript
- Integrated an external secure document storage product via API with the existing Advisor and Client portals, beginning with sketching system architecture to UI design using Whimsical through to frontend UI implementation in React and Typescript
- Enabled feature flagging for implemented features in the frontend and backend codebases for selective feature activation.

Full Stack Engineer

Prox

Prox was a digital marketplace of experts, called Prox Pros, who book one on one and group sessions with clients, known as Seekers. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Creating an API for Discount Code creation and application to Group Sessions
- Maintaining front end architecture using React and Tailwind
- Created an local search engine API for Experts Discovery
- Created UI interface for Pros to manage their upcoming Group Sessions

Environment: Node.js, deployed to Amazon EC2.

Full Stack Software Engineer

Paradem Consulting

Working on a large scale production Ruby on Rails/GraphQL/React application. ⚛️

Roles & Responsibilities: 

- Edited existing Rails models and adding ruby methods for API calls
- Wrote Apollo-based GraphQL hooks for querying backend data
- Built frontend UI components with React, using Javascript and Flow for typecasting.
- Maintained continuous correspondence with Product Owners and UX Designers for feedback on developing features
- Biweekly sprint demo presentation of team progress

Graphic Designer | UI Developer

Hyperlocal

Hyperlocal is a geolocation-based checkin app. Utilizing the Foursquare API, it allows users to search for and check in to existing Foursquare venues within a 5 km (3 mi) radius of their current location. MapBox displays an interactive map with venue results and locally hosted Local Events data. The ultimate aim is to allow users to not only see their friends' checkins, but also connect with businesses and attend local events within their immediate neighbourhoods.

Features to be introduced: 

- Adding custom local events via form submission
- Heatmapping user's checkins
- Live updating other user's checkins. 

The app is currently in alpha mode, with updates pushed every few weeks or so.

After returning to Canada, I needed a break from design. I figured the side gig life could be for me - a coffee shop job to keep myself busy, and some design work on the side. I gained some new skills, notably how to keep a cafe running and how to make a latte, but ultimately I concluded that I enjoy drinking coffee much more than serving it.
