When you step in as a new CMO in a scale-up SaaS, heres what everyone thinks will happen:



Month 1: Magic brand campaign.
Month 2: Inbound leads flood in.
Month 3: CAC down, ACV up, board high-fiving you.

Reality is messier. 

So here’s how to actually survive your first 90 days as CMO in a scale-up:

Month 1: Survival and alignment

- Meet sales immediately. Map what good pipeline means with CRO/VP Sales. Sell it as a revenue insurance policy.
- Audit ICP and personas. Validate with win/loss data and customer calls. Wrong ICP = wasted CAC.
- Kill zombie tools. Cut duplicative spend and reallocate to real pipeline programs. CFOs love this.
- Get visibility into pipeline. Join forecast calls, shadow AEs. P- osition yourself as the partner who fuels pipeline, not a lead-catcher. 

Month 2: Quick wins and credibility

- Pick one motion. Decide on PLG, inbound, or account-based - depending on ICP. One disciplined motion beats three thin spread ones. You are not Hubspot, you can't do all three. 
- Map content to the sales cycle. Case studies, ROI calculators, objection handling. This is the ammo sales actually needs.
- Start reporting leading metrics. Show the board traffic quality, conversion, opp creation. Translate: ARR is lagging, these are proof we’re on track.

Month 3: Execution and proof
- Align with customer success. Build expansion plays, success stories, NPS loops. Sell it with churn math: 1% less churn = €XM ARR preserved.
- Build trust across leadership. CRO, CPO, CFO. No surprises. Shared goals only.

Final advice:

Month 1: Clean house.
Month 2: Deliver quick wins.
Month 3: Prove ARR impact.

CEOs - when you hire a new CMO, please educate yourself on these things, so your expectations are reasonable.

Everyone talks about “fixing GTM” with a new campaign, a new tool, or a bigger SDR team.

Reality in 2026: Inbound is slower. Outbound is tougher. The only teams scaling do it by architecture - one system across marketing, sales, and CS that turns signals into revenue.

That’s why this event matters.

Why this event is a turning point (and not a freaking field trip)

Common language -> The Bowtie. Stop treating post-sale as an afterthought. Bowtie standardizes the full journey - acquire, retain, expand—so every team sees the same pipeline, the same leak points, the same math. 

One operating model, not three functions. The WbD operating model aligns marketing, sales, and CS to the same formulas and data - so ABM, inbound, and outbound stop competing and start compounding. 

Sessions focus on AI-powered growth benchmarks and how to wire signals into GTM plays you can actually run Friday morning. 

The textbook behind the talks. Revenue Architecture (Jacco van der Kooij) codifies the frameworks we are already implementing. This isn’t a keynote. It’s an implementation plan. 

How I would convert Ghent into a 12-month plan (the “first year” playbook)

Months 1–3 - Diagnose & align
- Map our current journey on the Bowtie. Where are we leaking: acquisition, activation, renewal, expansion?
- Lock a single ICP and a single signal stack used by marketing, BDR/AE, and CS.
- Replace channel debates (inbound vs outbound) with signal-led plays owned by pods. 

Months 4–6 - Activate pods & prove lift
- Stand up cross-functional pods (Marketing + BDR/AE + CS) with one scoreboard and weekly “next best action” reviews.

Run three plays only:
- Signal-surge ABM (multi-stakeholder research)
- Trigger events (job change / tech change)
- Expansion plays (impact → case → intro)
- Report leading indicators tied to Bowtie stages, not vanity metrics. 

Months 7–9 - Scale what converts
- Clone winning pods by vertical/region; kill anything that doesn’t improve velocity, win rate, or NRR.
- Add AI assist where it shortens cycle time (prioritisation, summarisation) - not to do more crap in, crap out faster. 

Months 10–12 - Institutionalize
- Bake the operating model into planning, comp, and QBRs.
- Board reporting = Bowtie + unit economics. No more split narratives. 

Why this event is crucial for building business
Because it replaces “try harder” with work smarter on the right system: common language (Bowtie), common operating model, common data. That’s how inbound and outbound stop competing and start compounding. 

If you’re a CRO/CMO/RevOps leader and you’re done with channel wars, let’s compare operating models and leave with the same plan: one GTM, one Bowtie, one scoreboard.

When did helping go out of style?



Yesterday, someone thanked me for “taking the time” to help.
He needed a solid profile for a role - fractional or employee.
Two days later, I hooked him up with a good profile. 
It took me maybe an hour, tops.

Am I a headhunter? No.
Did I make a buck off it? No.
But I’ve got a strong network and good instincts, so… why wouldn’t I?

People act so surprised when you just help without a catch.
Like there’s always supposed to be an agenda behind it. It’s kinda tiring, do you agree? 

Yeah, yeah, I know - it fits the whole “altruistic post” format.
But anyone who’s been around me for years knows this isn’t new.
I’ve always worked like this. Because if you can help, and it costs you nothing - why wouldn’t you?

When was the last time you helped someone just because you could?

Is it just me that think kindness should come back as a trend?
