Our goal is to bridge the gap between user queries and app identification using Cortana - Cortana skills kit (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/cortana). I developed a part of the core backend, that powers app identification for a given query.

# Offline entity annotation 

Our goal is to identify entities from various user queries and try to identify and tag them to the ones in Microsoft Knowledge base . I worked on developing various machine learning based features to annotate parts (or a full web query) to an entity.

 - Baseline filtering model
 - Fresh queries and entity identification
 - Automatic click feature refresh pipeline

# Content Ranking 

Our goal is to identify features in web pages that determines the quality of the page. I worked on scaling Detecting Quilted Web Pages at Scale</a> on Bing web corpus and achieved NDCG (https://www.kaggle.com/wiki/NormalizedDiscountedCumulativeGain) in addition to other metrics.

# Curating and Searching the Annotated Web (https://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/~soumen/doc/CSAW/)

Our ambition is to annotate mentions of named entities and quantities on billions of Web pages, improve query analysis, and thus, enable searching with entities and relationships at an unprecedented quality and scale. I worked on the scaling part of the problem. Specifically, given a trained model how do we run it at web scale. 

My work resulted in a paper at the World Wide Web (WWW) conference, 2012 Lyon, France.

Teaching Assistant

Being an APEX Member gives the flexibility to choose one of various dimensions of Software development. As part of my second rotation, I chose to be a Developer in the Relationship experiences division of Microsoft. I worked on the project `Deliver and Store' which handles distribution, maintenance and delivery of content across Microsoft's data centers around the world . My work as a developer was to work to implement key features in the back end to deliver content at increased speeds. I have worked on  C# .NET 4.0, SQL Server.

Software Development Engineer, APEX Member

The Microsoft IT Accelerated Professional Experiences Program (APEX) is rotational program for high potential employees to elevate their career and improve leadership skills through a broadened exposure to Microsoft.

APEX members work on a breadth of projects over a span of two years in IT Engineering, Product Development and Consulting Organizations for a duration of 6 months each in diverse roles such as Development, Testing and Program Management.
In addition APEX Members get a chance to improve their Leadership and Business Skills through on the Job Experiences and Classroom Training’s.

As part of the APEX program, I worked as a Test engineer in the Enterprise experiences division(ExD) of Microsoft. The team I was part of, was working on key software that enables ease of sale of Volume licensing products. I had introduced the usage of Model-driven test case development in the team and had been awarded IT Pro award for Excellence in Execution. The technologies I worked with the technologies - C#, .NET 4.0, Windows Presentation Foundation, Product Studio, Visual Studio Team Test.

I worked as an intern in the Ruby on Rails team. I started my work with fixing various bugs in UI widgets embedded in the product. Using the skills developed during the process, I developed and deployed a UI widget to enhance the user interaction over our product.

I earlier worked in the Conversation group as part of AI Core where I worked on core pieces in Cortana Skills kit. Prior to that I was part of the Relevance team at Bing, Hyderabad. I used to work on building machine learnt models for various experiences on Cortana. Prior to that, I used to work on using Machine Learning techniques to improve the relevance of Bing results for user queries.
