I used to live for Saturdays.

Not because of rest or breaks. Because Saturday used to be my cheat day. The one day I gave myself permission to eat what I actually wanted.

Monday to Friday? Strict. Disciplined. Denying cravings. Convincing myself that discipline meant restriction.

By Wednesday, my mind would already start planning the binge. What restaurant. How much I'd eat because "this is my only chance."

Then, saturday would come and I'd overindulge because I convinced myself this was my only opportunity. I had to make it count. And by Sunday, the guilt would hit. 

The bloating. The discomfort. The promise to myself that Monday would be different.

I stayed stuck in that cycle. Thinking this was what discipline looked like.

This year, something shifted.

After a long day of back to back meetings, I was craving ice cream - not the sugar free, tasteless version that feels like punishment. 

My first instinct was to wait till Saturday. But then I stopped and asked myself - why?

Why am I waiting for permission to enjoy something as simple as ice cream?

That's when I found Go Zero ❤️ Zero added sugar. And it actually tasted like ice cream. Not like a compromise I had to force myself to finish.

That moment changed everything for me.

The problem was never my cravings. 

The problem was this belief I'd built in my head that good food had to taste bad, and food that tasted good had to come with guilt attached.

Restriction didn't make me disciplined. It just made me rebound harder every weekend.

Now, I don't have cheat days. I have daily choices that don't require a weekly pardon. 

I don't wait for Saturday to have ice cream.

These 2 interview questions almost cost my mentee a 22 LPA Data Scientist role at a tech giant 😲

They weren’t tricky, but they tested how he thinks.

📌 Question 1: “Your model accuracy improved, but business KPIs dropped after deployment. What happened?”

This question checks whether you understand that offline metrics and not just business impact. A strong answer looks beyond accuracy and asks:
→ Are we optimizing the right metric?
→ Did class imbalance hide costly errors?
→ Did data drift or threshold changes affect real users?

👉 Interviewers here want to see if you can connect model behavior to business outcomes, not just quote metrics.

📌 Question 2: “A recommendation model increased CTR but reduced session duration. How would you evaluate this and decide whether to roll it back?”

This tests your ability to handle conflicting signals. A good approach:
→ Check statistical significance (A/B test, confidence intervals)
→ Evaluate business significance (short-term clicks vs long-term engagement)
→ Use guardrail metrics before making rollback decisions

👉 Higher CTR isn’t always a win if it hurts retention.

So, the real lesson here is that Data Science interviews aren’t about fancy algorithms or deep learning models alone. They’re about ML fundamentals, structured thinking, and decision-making under ambiguity.

Tools change. Frameworks change. But fundamentals + reasoning are what get you hired 💪
