1. Forest fire detection using satellite images: Efficiency increased by 28% by optimizing an algorithm to detect Forest Fire using Satellite Images  
2. Single object detection and tracking: Improved accuracy by 35% for Single Object Tracking, which detects and tracks an object in a video

Research Assistant

Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata

Summer research internship under the supervision of Dr. Swagatam Das. 

1. Smart initialization of Cluster Centers for K-Means clustering:
Developed a 20% efficient algorithm (Smart clustering algorithm) over the state-of-the-art algorithms. A deterministic approach to initialize cluster centers in order to fasten the convergence as well as improve the quality of final clusters. 

2. Sparse Clustering – Simultaneous feature selection and convergence :
Achieved a 12% jump in the efficiency of K-means clustering by utilizing the sparse clustering method. A relatively new method of clustering which considers feature weights for clustering and introduce a sparsity to fasten the algorithm and selecting the appropriate features simultaneously is implemented. Various distance metrics other than Euclidean distances are tested for better convergence and feature selection.

As a member of this wonderful community of like minded Machine Learning and Applied AI enthusiasts used to give talks on various Machine learning concepts to the students who are new to the field or just started working. My previous talks include 'Introduction to Recommendation Systems' and 'Multiclass Classification of Imbalanced Datasets', 'Feature Engineering - Making an algorithm understand the data', etc.
