Project: Woven Desizing Process

• Contributed to the CALIMERO Project, focusing on sensitivity analysis and process simulation with Aspen Plus and AVEVA to enhance the efficiency of the woven desizing process, leading to better energy and water use.
• Supported the development and optimization of starch removal in textile processing, aiming for sustainable environmental practices and improved process effectiveness.

• Doing detailed literature research on Organic Solvent Nanofiltration and Cellulose Membranes
• Understanding effect of protic and aprotic acids on Cellulose Membranes
• Observing the effect of charged molecules by use of charged dye molecules
• Utilizing experiments in absence and presence of NaCl salt for crosschecking charging effect on cellulose membrane

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Aksa Akrilik Kimya Sanayii A.S.

AKSA Acrylic Chemical Industry is Turkey’s the biggest fiber producing company which process acrylonitrile (AN) and vinyl-acetate (VAc) to produce different kind of fibers and derivatives as main products. The annual capacity is 315,000 tons. 

I am doing my internship in Process and Product Development department. Because of being project intern, it is expected from me to do a project regarding to production which will increase efficiency and decrease energy need. 

Key Achievements:
•	Visiting storage tank area while field trip and understanding safety precautions
- Contactless transfer of raw material to the tanks 
- Usage of flexible pipes on joins
•	Understanding basic processes on polymerization and fiber processing
- CSTR reactor for polymerization and the flow of process
- Recovery of reactants as a result of incomplete reaction in vacuum stripping column
- Chemical Process Safety issues regarding to process, e.g. HAZOP
•	Grabbing the idea behind working principle of instrumentation
- Distillation columns, separators, heat-exchangers, decanter and types of valves by reading the process manual,  synchronously observing them in the plant area
- P&ID diagrams for understanding instrumentation standards
Project: In Polymerization Unit, replacing Air-Condenser system with Cooling Water-Condenser system for saving energy which is being wasted in current design.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•	Designing more efficient process as a part of internship project
- Energy and mass balance around stripping-condenser-heat exchanger system units for grasping the idea of engineering calculations
- Heat Exchanger design for condenser system considering close water system
- ASPEN Plus engineering simulation program for design and optimization of process
- Learning the of how to make PFD and P&ID diagrams
- Using Mathcad 15.0, Mathcad Prime and Excel programs for engineering calculations
- Feasibility analysis for the design system

Long-Term Project Engineer

Turkey’s the only company which process crude oil to produce fuel oil and derivatives as main products. The skills I've learned about:

•	Understanding basic processes that prepare crude oil to the next step(fractionation)
•	Knowing the main differences between atmospheric and vacuum distillation processes
•	Finding out the fundamental principles of thermal cracking, desulfurization and sour water stripping processes
•	Catching the working principle of distillation columns, separators, heat-exchangers, drums and types of valves by reading the manuals for operators, at the same time observing them in the field of refinery
•	Doing energy and mass balance around heat-exchanger units for grasping the idea of engineering calculations

Production Engineer

Henkel

Henkel plant in Ankara producing powder and liquid detergents for supplying domestic detergent products to Turkey's and some neighborhood countries.  During my internship skills I've learned about:

•	Understanding basic processes that produce tower powder while doing neutralization process by use of 5 raw materials (stearic acid, AQUASIT, LABSA, water, caustic)
•	Learning the agitation process, which is followed by mixing solid and liquid ingredients for producing liquid detergent, meanwhile observing the process in the liquid production department.
•	Knowing the main differences between liquid and powder detergent production processes
•	Finding out the fundamental principles of sulphonation process for producing LABSA, which is raw material for both liquid and powder detergents.
•	Catching the working principle of columns, mixers, heat-exchangers, reactor and types of valves by visiting the units of plant with operators
•	Doing energy and mass balance around heat-exchanger units for grasping the idea of engineering calculations

As a committed engineer with a fervent interest in Process Systems Engineering (PSE), I obtained my degree in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), where I also gained valuable practical experience through completing four internships in academia and industry. My unwavering fascination with computational research led me to pursue a Master's degree at Gebze Technical University (GTU), where I am currently working on my dissertation project entitled Machine Learning-Oriented Design of Hard Carbon Anodes for Developing High-Performance Sodium-Ion Batteries. Though I faced challenges such as adapting to a new culture and losing a scholarship due to a low GPA, I persevered and achieved my goals with flying colors. As the Coordinator of Mentors and Hosts at the International Student Office, I actively seek out opportunities to mentor and support international students. Driven by my unbridled passion for engineering and research, I am dedicated to exploring opportunities to use machine learning techniques to forecast and design higher performance sodium-ion batteries, an immensely promising energy storage solution, prior to embarking on my PhD studies.
