SmartLight Analytics is an organization that uses proprietary models to analyze medical claims for fraud, waste, or abuse.  I worked as a contractor using SSMS (SQL Server) and MyDBR to design and build a Data Mapping Management utility for file ingestion.  

This application is like one leg of a three legged stool consisting of Data Mapping Management, Data Load Management, and Data Quality Reporting,  My DBR uses PHP to create a "front end" for a SQL database, and allows extensive reporting and record editing.  The presentation details are mixed in with the SQL stored procedures and perform the necessary linkage and security services for a web ready user front end.  It is an excellent rapid development tool and great for administrative maintenance of databases.

VDT's Software as a Service (SaaS) platform Affinite' provides cutting edge data science technology to health plans.  VDT offers a popular solution for Quality (HEDIS) that is NCQA certified, and also provides solutions for Risk Management, Providers, Members and Plans.

I am a member of the database team and work on data extraction, transformation, and loading for new and existing health plans.  VDT is a close knit team of developers, each specializing in various aspects of the creation, maintenance, and delivery of the product.

Landmark Health

MS SQL DW and BI, SSMS, SSIS, SSRS

I was a database analyst at this exciting and rapidly growing healthcare company.  We partnered with health plans in many states to care for their most chronically ill patients, delivering quality care in the home.  Landmark has its own EMR, allowing Providers offline, online again synchronization, and a progressive business model that integrates with participating Health Plans. 

Landmark owns their own software company (Imagine), located in India.   They have developed Ubiquity, a state of the art EMR, and ported modules over one at a time from their former EMR.  The data imported from the health plans was ingested by the EMR(s) and the EDW acts as a "transit station" for packages headed in several directions.

I worked in the Business Intelligence /Data Warehouse team.  This involved development and maintenance of ETLs and stored procedures with SSIS, SSMS and C# scripting.  We used SSRS for some of our Business Intelligence reporting, so I maintained reports for an in-house dashboard.

I developed ETLs and stored procedures to integrate Eligibility, Authorization, Census, Claims, Labs, Rx Claims, Chronic Conditions, and Provider data.  I also developed processes that integrated CMS data such as MOR, MAO, RAPS, and MMR files into the data warehouse.   I developed standardized ETLs and stored procedures that could process CMS files across many of our health plans in an identical fashion.

I troubleshot and maintained an extensive collection of over 100 reports from our EMR which worked with Quality measures, scheduling, productivity, capitation, and other pertinent data to support the clinical staff and administrative personnel who worked with our patients.  I worked with Data Governance to create report legends, gather data definitions, and identify critical data points.

I used MS-SQL 2005, 2008R2, and 2012 with SSMS, SSRS, and SSIS.     

I worked on a data warehouse building tables, views, functions, processes and procedures.  I have  written small systems of ten to twenty five tables with associated views and stored procedures.  I am a general purpose database programmer.

As a developer, I designed a system to process monthly phone invoices of over 1,500 employee phones, integrating the payroll system to distribute charges across hundreds of cost centers and wrapping them up into a transaction file suitable for SAP.  This process resulted in a net cost savings of a million dollars a year as a result of efficient processing and exception handling to gain visibility of excessive usage, waste, and abuse.

As an analyst, I wrote reports for the Medical Management group and worked with GE Centricity Practice Solutions much of the time.  We built custom data sets for research and grant funding requests.

I worked as a data analyst for a home health care company.  I used MS SQL 2000, VB Script, HTML, and Pagemaker to develop custom views and SharePoint applications for the Pathways Healthcare System.   I wrote stored procedures and functions, tuned queries and worked with web developers to create interfaces to the back end for a wound care system.

I developed processes and procedures, worked on data integration, developed routines for fraud handling, and built an application for Return Materials Authorizations (RMA) using Visual Basic, MSSQL 7.0 and 2000.

I began as an install technician and was promoted to Installation Manager for a small business working a large contract between GE Capital and Computer Science Corporation (CSC).  I put together the process, trained and hired the technicians, and developed an automated system for ordering, scheduling, installing, and recovering over 5,000 new laptops and desktops, all loaded with operating systems, applications, and data.  I led a team of up to six employee at a time in this process.  

During this time I was promoted to Director of Technology and established liaison with the other sites that we maintained. As Director of Technology I developed a database system to automate our process (order, install, recover), and as a result streamlined the process from over 30 days to under 3 days from order to install.   

I worked for ECCII at CSC for over three years until our contract was completed.

United States Marine Corps

During my time in the Marines I attended a total of 5 electronics and 1 leadership courses.  In all it was about three years worth of full time school (the military has excellent technology schools).  I learned communications technology, schematics and test equipment, and maintenance process for HF, VHF, and UHF radio equipment.  I learned computer maintenance and software.  

I also attended Grantham College of Engineering for two semesters of independent study in electrical engineering.

I was a Water Safety Survival Instructor and ocean lifeguard at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station in Hawaii for a year and a half.  That was fun :)

I worked my way up from a radio repairman to Tech Chief, a manager of electronics maintenance facilities, including building a microcomputer repair facility in San Diego during the eighties.  I managed an electronics maintenance facility for Third Battalion Eleventh Marines (an artillery battalion), and am a combat veteran of the Persian Gulf War.

Microsoft SQL Developer/Analyst.   I enjoy Database Development, Data Warehouse, and Business Intelligence.  I use SSMS, SSRS, and SSIS on a daily basis for both OLTP (LOB) and OLAP  (DW) development.  

I began my career with twelve years in the United States Marine Corps as an electronics technician, and am a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.  After leaving the Marines I attended college at UNLV for electrical engineering.  As I realized my love for computer programming and software, I moved to Austin, got into the IT industry and began database programming during the dot com boom.

I have am a student of jazz guitar, and a certified yoga instructor.  These help me stay in tune, remain flexible, and keep focused.
