How I help: We all know we should be regularly creating great content for our audiences - it's a modern minimum standard for any organisation serious about digital engagement. Yet often the job of content creation and delivery falls right to the bottom of our to-do list, which leads to barren 'news' pages and boring, ad hoc social channels. As a result, we end up constantly scratching around for things to write about and post each day. It's stressful, it's hardly effective, and it's definitely not strategic. So what's the solution? My background: An award-winning journalist, I started as a cub reporter in 2010, later becoming a news director then editor of a daily newspaper. My final journalism role was as chief news director for The Dominion Post, where I also had stints as acting editor. In 2020, I joined the Wellington City Council as senior editor, shaping the organisation's content and channels strategy, and overseeing a 50 percent increase in social media audience, and a 500 percent increase in news traffic.
