Peace Corps

I lived in a ger (yurt) for two years in a small town in the Mongolian countryside.  I taught English as a second language to children and adults at our local secondary school. I wrote and administered $3,000 grant from the local gold mining company for the construction of English language library. Then I solicited and managed donations of over 5,000 books and other materials from private U.S. donors.

I also advised an 18th Century Tibetan Monastery and future World Heritage Site (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarbayasgalant_Monastery) on strategic and sustainable tourism development, including ger camp startup, soliciting donations, interacting with foreigners, and presentation at tourist expo. 

With some other volunteers, I produced, recorded, and edited a children’s musical English language CD and partnered with a national bank to sponsor distribution to every school in Mongolia.

Finally, I had the privilege of representing Peace Corps Mongolia to prominent visitors, including U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Peace Corps Global Director, and two U.S. Ambassadors -- building connections from one humble ger to one world leader at a time.
