Assistant Vice President, Life & Career Design

Muhlenberg College

As Executive Director of Career Services, I am responsible for leading the team that provides career readiness programming to our undergraduate and graduate student body. In this role, I provide strategic leadership for all Career Development programs and initiatives, support 6 professional staff members and 10 part-time members of our support team, manage the annual budget and forecast revenues and expenses, manage the finances for our gift accounts and allocation of endowed scholarships, generate cross-functional collaborations with academic and student affairs colleagues, and manage the transition of career services from assessing participation in programming to assessing learning outcomes.

During my time as Executive Director, I have generated and synthesized data to inform a new methodology that our team leverages to differentiate and individualize career interventions for all students. The team has accomplished this by implementing the Muhlenberg Action Plan (MAP) which is a student-centered goal-attainment program that begins in a student’s first year, and evolves throughout a student’s career journey. Executive Director of Career Services

William & Mary

As an Associate Director in the Graduate Career Management Center, my primary focus was supporting (and challenging) our graduate business students to establish a strong professional brand and adopt an "every-day is a job interview" philosophy. I was consistently impressed with the caliber of students in our MBA, MAcc, and MSBA programs, and sought to provide a customized, powerful program that  helped our students fulfill their objectives and (with respect to their career path) "Own It!"

Associate Director, Graduate Career Advising

In this role, I focused on developing student connections with external constituents like recruiters, Tribe Partners, Tribe Parents & Families, and William & Mary Alumni, with the hopes of developing experiential and professional opportunities in the fields of Accounting & Finance. I also managed case competitions on campus, as well as the Annual William & Mary Wall Street Program, which provides up to 20 students an immersive Investment Banking experience in New York City over the span of 4 days. 

In addition to these main tasks, I also:
• Developed relationships with local, state and national organizations that furthered the experiential mission of William & Mary
• Coordinated collaborative programs that kept students current on hiring and industry trends
• Compiled and published various guides that assisted students in selecting careers or moving through the unique hiring process for each industry area I served
• Developed opportunities for First and Second Year Students, to test potential careers and begin growing their professional network

Assistant Director, Business Careers: Accounting & Finance

As a counselor in the Cohen Career Center, I served as a Career Generalist and an Experiential Learning Specialist.  I assisted a diverse group of students and alumni through a variety of career exploration tools, professional critiques, and transition preparation actions.  Students and alumni that worked with me acquired strategies to tell their professional story in a concise an interesting way, aimed at being desirable to hiring managers. 

My primary administrative functions were to improve and increase the experiential learning opportunities available to students, manage the Internship Funding process, and develop lasting relationships within the William & Mary Community.  I accomplished these goals by: 
  • Acquiring and assessing accurate data to evaluate and drive decisions on programming
  • Networking with organizations from a diverse group of industries and geographic locations 
  • Identifying potential mentors for William & Mary Students and Alumni
  • Cultivating mutually-beneficial relationships with employers and site-hosts

Assistant Director, Internships

Montclair State University

As an Adjunct Member of Montclair State University’s Faculty, I developed and taught courses over 6 consecutive semesters, focused on professional development through experiential learning and networking.  

• Family and Child Studies 315 (Field Experience) gave freshman and sophomore students an early understanding of the importance of professionalism and career-preparation, focusing not only on a 35 hour observational experience, but also on developing a thoughtful resume, understanding and practicing interview techniques, adapting to post-collegiate employment culture, and honing informational interviewing skills and networking skills.

• Family and Child Studies 409 (Internship) was a 9 credit, 350 hour deep dive into a career serving families and children, which took place during the student’s last academic semester.  I acted as the primary faculty mentor and advisor for up to 14 students per semester in this course, and was in charge of assigning appropriate supportive educational tasks and evaluating the student’s professional readiness.

Adjunct Professor

During my tenure as Internship Coordinator for the Department of Family and Child Studies I grew the internship program in a variety of ways.  Over the span of over 2 years, I was able to generate a 450% increase in our internship opportunities through a variety of networking functions and faculty collaboration.  I also was able to develop and grow the Annual Internship Fair from 3 Internship Sites and 15-20 student attendees to over 15 sites and 200-250 student attendees within a span of only one year, through networking and an improved marketing campaign.

My primary two functions as Internship Coordinator were 1) Career Counseling and Internship Preparation for the students, and 2) Employer relations for the improvement and continued success of the Department’s Experiential Learning Programs.  During my time in the department, I also developed (what became) a mandatory Internship Ethics and Behavior Seminar, designed to protect the students, the University and the Internship Sites, as well as mandatory Resume, Interview Techniques and Transition From College to Career Seminars.

Family and Child Studies Internship Coordinator

One of the most rewarding and influential experiences in my professional career was my academic year spent interning with the Women’s Center and Office of Equity and Diversity at Montclair State.  My primary functions were to develop counseling experience by working (both directly and indirectly) with students and staff members of the University in a one-on-one or small group setting.  I was able to assist clients with a variety of issues, including (but not limited to): sexual assault, time-management, alcohol and drug abuse, career development, eating disorders, etc.

During my time at the Women’s Center, I was also able to perform qualitative and quantitative research for gender and leadership program renovation, deliver educational programming about healthy relationships to student groups (i.e. Sororities and Fraternities), facilitate a weekly domestic violence support group for the University Community and act as a Teacher’s Assistant in an Intro to Women and Gender Studies Course.

Graduate Counseling Intern

I only spent 1 year as a graduate assistant at Montclair State University, because I was able to convert my position to a per-diem (and ultimately a permanent) position at the University. This gave me valuable insight into the difficult process of creating a position at a public university, as I was able to take part in every stage of the development process. While assisting in this conversion, I still was able to develop and renovate the Internship Opportunity Website, perform career advising, develop professional development programming for the student population, and effectively create new relationships and affiliations between Montclair State and various experiential learning sites.

Graduate Assistant

North Jersey Chamber of Commerce

My primary function as Director of Membership was to expeditiously grow the membership base, evaluate and renovate membership programs and initiatives, and improve a decade-long membership retention problem.

Key Accomplishments:
• Successfully developed, on-boarded, and supervised a team of 15 Front-Line Membership Representatives
• Developed programs and initiatives which provided the Chamber with its highest period of sustained membership growth in over 15 years 
• Improved membership retention by over 30% and net membership growth by 24%

Director of Membership

As Program Manager for the North Jersey Chamber of Commerce, I worked collaboratively with the President to modernize and refurbish the Chamber’s membership and networking programs.  

Key Accomplishments:
• Supervised a complete membership dues transition from a multi-level payment system to a streamlined flat-rate dues program, drastically increasing participation from mid-size businesses  
• Collaborated with the president to plan and execute over 50 events per calendar-year
• Developed new revenue streams for the operational accounts of the Chamber

My research interests include leadership development, crisis leadership, and how professionals connect with and respond to their environment.
