On holidays in Portugal, freshly finished school at 18yrs, I dived into shallow water and broke my neck #C5. After a couple of months being completely paralysed, I started a long path of rehabilitation, adapting to my new reality of living with an incomplete spinal cord injury. Learning with resilience and perseverance, I managed to stand up and walk out of my wheelchair… First years at University with a disability have not been my favorite time as I had not yet accepted my limitations. Studying International Economics and Diplomatic Relations for 3 years allowed me to embark on a journey of focussing on my abilities, but my true path to acceptance started with a total shift, studying for my Master’s Degree in Health Sciences and Rehab in The Netherlands. Combining a Coaching certification in 2004 and being coached myself have helped me find the confidence to start my career in clinical research, get married and become a proud father. Having lived an agile life, focussed on change and adaptation since my accident, being a certified agile leadership coach, having worked in Europe, with the US/Canada and since 2012 in APAC, I am a global citizen, leading my projects and capability building activities around patient-inclusivity with passion for a shared purpose. My disability does not define me… leading with disability confidence drives me to make a change for the better… always with enthusiasm.
