After being consistent with my Hatha Yoga and meditation practices and guidance from my mentor, I slowed down for the first time reducing the constant activity happening both in my mind and body. I marveled at the morning sky that was in a beautiful light blue color with few orangish yellow rays emanating in some parts. On hearing this, my mentor penned the above poem.

As I mentioned in the below post that sets the context for the Bhagavad Gita series, Krishna is a realized human being who embodies clarity and equanimity. He guides Arjuna, a confused and struggling individual, toward understanding his inner potential and finding clarity in the midst of challenges.

In the Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.12, Krishna says “Neither did any of us not exist, Nor will we cease to exist hereafter”.  This is in response to a sorrowful Arjuna’s question to him on what will bring him freedom and lasting fulfillment. Despite his accomplishments, skills, wealth, privileged birth as a prince and a good family, he is still searching for freedom from lack and sorrow. Krishna also says in verse 2.13, just as the body passes into childhood, youth and old age, so do we pass into another body. As a corollary, he asks to endure pain ultimately resulting in it losing its strength, so that we may be fit for liberation in verse 2.14 and 2.15.

In the past, being too full of myself, my identity felt tightly coupled with my body and mind (thoughts and emotions). Krishna’s response is a fundamental shift from my definition of who I am. In this article, let us go through how reducing the mental chatter, consequently an increased awareness helped me to see the possibility of truth in Krishna’s response.

P.S: While I know, through experience, that I am not the body or mind, I am still a work in progress to truly determine who I am, through grace and hence mentioned “possibility of truth” above.
