Paralegal

Selected to undertake a one-week summer vacation scheme at a multi-specialist law firm. The scheme consisted of 4 'mini seats' in various areas of practice followed by team building activities and a marketing presentation. I was partnered with a Solicitor/Partner in each area of practice who was available to deliver extensive guidance and answer any queries, as well as providing activities to complete independently. 

Personal Injury:
- Drafted an initial Letter of Claim in a vulnerable client matter and established liability of a residential facility.
-  Calculated general damages using the Quantum Database in a matter involving serious no-fault injury.
- Analysed the strengths and weaknesses of a claim as secondary victim of psychiatric harm. 

Dispute Resolution (Commercial):
- Attended a client meeting with a Partner in relation to a dispute involving Administrator's remuneration and creditor guarantees. 
- Analysed the order of priority debts in administration and drafted a detailed list of the issues surrounding the client matter to be presented to the relevant parties during dispute. 

Private Client: 
- Drafted two Lasting Powers of Attorney in Health & Welfare and Property & Financial Affairs
- Completed an IHT205 form with reference to a scenario including a calculation of assets and liabilities. 
- Drafted emails applying the rules of intestacy to a scenario and determining the parties that can apply for a grant of letters of administration. 

Real Estate:
- Analysed a Heads of Terms and researched the definition of various technical language phrases. 
- Drafted a Lease using a template with reference to a Heads of Terms.

Summer Vacation Scheme

Completed a Legal Secretary apprenticeship during my gap year to strengthen my experience in practice prior to commencing my Undergraduate LLB Law. This position provided me with confidence in my aspiration to pursue a career in law, as well as administrative skills and an understanding of private practice in a medium sized multi-specialist law firm. 

Responsibilities include; 
- Client correspondence, office administrative tasks (filing, typing, etc.), and preparation of legal documents (Wills, Grants of Probate, etc).
- Experience using BigHand audio transcription and various legal filing programs.
- Attendance of client meetings with Solicitors and drafting of meeting minutes.
