Virtual tour SOS!!!

It may sound like a new Channel 5 tv show, but it’s a subject that has cropped up in conversation quite a lot recently: venues that need their virtual tours rescuing.

We were exhibiting at a B2B Expos event a few weeks ago and one of the visitors came over to our stand and began talking about Matterport virtual tours, in particular the specifics around the Matterport tour their venue had invested in with another tour provider and why it wasn’t performing in the manner that the tour provider in question had promised. 

So, after a quick discussion, we looked at their tour and from the outset it was easy to understand why the tour just wasn’t performing.

·        No interactive tags with contextually relevant content in any of the           
         rooms or conference spaces.

·        No functionality included within the tour to drive traffic to specific  
         external site pages such as booking or enquiry forms.

·        No Guided Tour to showcase the key areas of the venue to the user at a 
         glance.

·        No labels on the floor plan to let the user know where they are.

·        All scan points left in the tour, meaning the user has no clear journey 
         around the space (see one of my previous posts on the subject).

And finally, to top it off, the footprint of the tour was enormous with every corridor captured meaning the user often had to take a long and unnecessary journey from one side of the building to the other to get to the next point of interest.

After discussing the issues, the venue owner was understandably quite disappointed at the level of service they’d been provided by their tour provider but equally pleased with the solutions we’d suggested to quickly and easily rectify the situation, and on the spot asked if we’d take on the work to turn it around. Which of course we did!

Now, rescue missions aren’t something we advertise, but we’ve found we’re being approached by a greater number of venues who want a second opinion on their existing tour, usually because it’s not achieving their goals and they want to optimise the tour and increase performance.

When we collaborate with our clients, we look to establish and find the answers to the following questions:

·        What is the purpose of and the goals for the tour?
·        How will the tour achieve those goals?
·        How will the tour’s performance be measured?
·        What does success look like?

With the answers in place, the foundations for a successful tour are laid and the planning for the tour creation can begin.
