My (un) popular opinion: Klaviyo or any other platform of tool won't solve your retention or even acquisition problems.

What will is doing proper customer research research and create hyper relevant journeys for your best, loyal, customers.

If you've been in e-commerce for a longer period of time and do at least 1M turnover a year... I can bet you already have a loyal customer base that you've probably acquired without doing any in-depth research.

There's a big chance you've acquired them with the "wrong" or standard messaging and with basic journeys you or an agency or freelancer created.

Most of it is based around the idea you had of your (best) customers.

Now let me ask a question

Do you think you'll do better or worse if

- you've done in-depth research, 
- talked to these best customers and found out what the main reason the buy from you
- know what main goals they have (for the products you sell)
- know what thoughts they had in the buying process 
- know other solutions they've already researched or tried
- you know what the moment was they took action (passive to actively looking)
- what issues they have experienced with your products that need to be fixed
- you know what their experience has been (nps), why and what would make it better for them?

After doing in-depth research for some brands I know most are trying to find shortcuts by copying journeys from other companies and haven't taken the time to go deep enough.

knowing the answers to the above questions will help you massively transform not only your retention but also your acquisition because now you'll be better equipped with

- the right messaging that resonates with your best customers goals
- better targeting because you now know what makes the best customers
- an awesome product, if you know what to fix about it to get even better, happier customers
- better onboarding and retention because you're talking to them in their language
- better additional products because you know who your best customers are and adding additional products that make sense to their goals.

let's say you're a brand selling weight loss and after research you noticed the best customers are 55+ that actually use your products to increase life expectancy and not to only look good on Instagram without a filter.

imagine how you'd change your messaging if you were previously targeting 25+ audience.

imagine what additional products you'd add.

it will be completely different.

this is a step that most companies and all Klaviyo agencies completely miss or skip.

it's time to transform businesses.

it's time for real customer journeys.

I'm running a 3.5 hour hands on course at #Experimentationelite this year, rather than the GA4 course I'd already done.  Why?

I'll share prompting approaches, frameworks and tips on driving GPT (and other tools too).  You'll learn what experimentation tasks AI is good at, and why these should be integrated into your workflow.  

Most of all, you'll leave knowing how to apply your new "AI Buddy" to your experimentation process.  Better quality ideas, hypotheses and experiments are the result.

You'll need a laptop for this workshop and a paid GPT account.  No experience of using ChatGPT (or other LLMs) is necessary.  I'll walk you through a problem, solution, hypothesis cycle - using a real business or customer problem that you bring along for the day.

This isn't a prompting hacks workshop - it's about applying your brain and AI tools to different problems, using playbooks as your training gym.  You'll also get a copy of the book covering over 40 tasks, and a thorough grounding from me, in how to apply this back at the office.

The Convert X Women in Experimentation Summit 2024

Not only am I attending Experimentation Elite in June, I'm also running a workshop if anyone is interested in attending. Spaces are limited so get in there early. The workshop was initially called An Experimenters Guide to the Galaxy but Erin Weigel felt I should aim bigger and renamed it to An Experimenters Guide to the Universe - which is why the images below have two different titles.

We discussed the psychological principles that influence online decisions, why understanding the 'why' behind user behaviors is key to enhancing digital experiences and why the post-purchase journey is critical for building lasting customer relationships.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱.. 𝗜 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗅

I quit only creating company journeys.

zooming out I'm seeing a massive shift coming that most are haven't seen yet but are already unconsciously playing around with.

i.e. I keep reading about zero party data, about connecting various parts of marketing together (which mostly operate siloed). analyzing and feeding data from your CRM and zpd back to marketing.

So Instead of those company dreamed of journeys from now on moving forward we'll be helping our customers crafting and optimizing their customer journeys.

optimizing customer journeys requires good and solid research!

1. RFM to know the mix of clients - who are those soulmates?

2. CLV analysis combined with behavioral and product analysis. Are there hero or toxic products attracting or repelling customers? any products bringing in more repeat purchases than others?

3. Jobs to be done: what are the main goals your (best - whale)  customers have and want to accomplish?

This to name a few of both Bual and Quant research which we do that can be used together or separately to improve the journey as a whole.

In the end you either have an acquisition, conversion, product or retention problem. 

Of course if you don't have anything setup yet for email just dreaming up a journey will be the quickest way to move the needle with least efforts... moving beyond that you need to have an in-depth knowledge of your customers.

After running these researches for our clients I can now honestly say most companies don't know their customers and that impacts the whole customer journey.

The level of depth and insights this gives can be plugged back into 

1. attracting better customers (marketing),
2. improving products, 
3. improving landingpages and product descriptions 
4. crafting better more relevant emails and 
5. even coming up with way more relevant zero party data questions for your popups identifying customers end goals.

in the end the goal is to optimize the value for the customers which in turn increases the value of the customer. Transforming all parts of the business to become more customer focussed.
