even if that means consistently getting caught trying new things, experimenting, and potentially even making a fool of yourself in the process until you get it right. 

there is NOTHING hotter than committing to being the version of yourself you know you want to be, but usually only give 30% to.

i mean it. most of us grew up being taught to chase wins like there’s only one seat at the table, like success is a spotlight & there’s only space for one person under it.

but the truth is, if you’re truly fulfilled in what you’re doing, someone else’s progress won’t feel like a threat.

in fact, the more invested you are in your own journey, the more you find yourself rooting for others who are doing the same,

because you get it.

you respect the grind, & you know how much it takes.

the deeper i go into my own work, the more i realise; discipline takes guts. staying consistent is hard. putting yourself out there again & again isn’t easy.

so if i see someone else doing the same, why wouldn’t i cheer them on?

i’ll clap because i know what it takes, & i’ll keep on doing it.

if there’s one thing i’ve taught myself over the years, it’s to have fearless audacity.

the kind that lets you look at someone winning in a field you admire, 

& think “why not me?” aaand then actually do something about it.

they saw someone else doing what they wanted, asked “why NOOOT me?” and then went for it.

most people stay stuck at step one, meanwhile, someone out there is thriving with half your talent and twice your effort.

harsh? yes. but it’s brutally true.

so if you’ve been sitting on a vision, or a version of yourself that you haven’t pursued yet, try being fearlessly audacious about it.

back yourself completely.
believe with every fibre of your being that you’re capable of achieving it, & then fiercely execute.

because if they can, why not you?

🍟 i will always say yes to fries 🍟

who wouldn’t?

but apparently, that casuuual “yes” contributes to a 15-40% increase in mcdonald’s annual revenue. 

employees are actually trained to drop the; 
“do you want fries with that?” line, 

because it’s the perfect upsell; it’s something small that you don’t really think twice about & it just feels like a nice add on to your order, but massively boosts the bottom line for them. 

& it’s not just mcdonald’s, 

🍟amazon’s “you might also like..”
🍟sephora’s minis at checkout
🍟netflix’s “because you watched..”

all of it=simple upselling that we happily accept because it feels like a lil upgrade, when in reality, it’s a major revenue driver.

and the funny bit is that the best upsells don’t come across as salesy, they feel like kindness. 

it’s almost like “let me make your burger less lonely.” 

(& i’m there innocently falling for it because my burger actually DOES look lonely sitting on that big tray by itself 🫡)

soo, the next time you say yes to “do you want fries with that?”, 
know that you’re upgrading your meal, sure, but you’re also funding Ronald’s retirement plan.

fries may be the side, but in the world of upselling? yeaaaah, they’re the main character.

turns out, 
modelling for a camera ≠ talking to one.

you ever try something that seems adjacent to a skill you already have, only to realise it’s a whole different beast? 

yeah, that was me recently. 

i started a fresh instagram page to take my love for marketing related yap into video form 🎥

(i already have my main page at 18k+, built on shoots/dance content, but i didn’t think that audience would necessarily be interested in this new niche, so i started clean, bc why even post if you’re not hitting your ideal viewer’s eye?) 

i made the page, hit record, and was baaaaffled by how hard it was to talk to a camera. 

like, i’ve modelled, danced, professional photoshoots; created that content for years, neeever been camera shy. 

but speaking directly to a camera? whole different experience.

and wooooow, was i humbled 🫠

(if you think this is exaggeration, go ahead, try filming yourself talking for 30 seconds on any topic and see if you’re willing to hit post, you’ll see what i mean)

the more i recorded though, the more natural it started to feel. i wouldn’t say it’s perfect yet, but i can feel the muscle forming.

& this whole thing made me realise, some forms of content look easy from the outside, but every medium has its own skill set.

so when you’re starting something new, it’s okay to suck at first, even if it feels adjacent to what you already DO know.

(this suuucks even more if you’re anything like me & expect to nail it 5 mins into trying something new, but yeaaaah 👀)

i’ve said this soo many times in comments, but clarity comes with action. the more you do it, the lighter it feels.

so if you’re in your “awkward beginning” phase right now? 

don’t worry, all of us are in some of the other field. 

the only way through is more reps, i promise 💪🏻

ana vasco; a storyboard artist with just 7k followers on ig shared the BTS of how she  ideated a campaign for jacquemus, & it got more engagement than the campaign itself 🤯

why? because behind the scenes content is starting to matter just as much as the polished result.

📎 with ai dominating campaign production, audiences are struggling to tell what’s real or not, & they’re questioning everythinggg.

so brands are adapting by leaning into BTS as proof; tagging human creators, sharing process reels, & outlining creative flows.

in a world of ai fuelled content, human input is now becoming the luxury differentiator.

audiences trust real people making real things, 

& the brands willing to indulge in human creativity are beginning to stand out.

call it luxury,
call it proof, 
or call it a quiet rebellion against ai being the death of creativity. 

either ways, it’s working.

🚨 reading this might itch your brain a little, but in a good way, i promise 🚨

(i also justify using this picture towards the end, so stick around for that chaotic logic <33)

we’ve all spoken endlessly about how gen z seems to instinctively reject salesy marketing.

said it’s because we crave authenticity, want values, & long for community and transparency.

& all of that is true, but it actually goes deeper than that.

this resistance to advertising?
it stems from a deeper discomfort with feeling like our choices are being made for us.

basically feeling like pawns in a brand’s psychological game of chess.

we’ve grown up inside the algorithm. 
we know our phones are listening. 
we know what targeted ads feel like.
we know the dopamine loop we’re caught in.

& all of this collectively wires us with a hyper awareness, a fear almost, of being tricked into buying something by a “surveillance” style of persuasion.

you can see that fear humorously being communicated through the “let me deinfluence you”, & “propaganda i’m not falling for” trends, it’s literally us memeing the feeling of being manipulated by online means.

so, when brands humanise themselves & speak like real people, or engage with us in comments (like duolingo, for example) we respect it, 

because it’s actively breaking out of the norm of feeling like the whole of advertising culture is a simulation that’s always listening, & working towards tricking us into making purchase decisions. 

it breaks out of analysing whether the interaction is just another touchpoint building up to a sale. 

(& funnily enough, it IS still a touchpoint intending a sale, yes. but it’s a human one. 
not one that feels like it was pre calculated to get our money :)

every time we see a new sneaky means of upselling or a new marketing trend, we appreciate the genius, but it also subconsciously stacks in our brain as another example of being indirectly tricked into buying. 

so gen z isn’t opposed to being advertised to. 

we’re opposed to feeling over smarted & manipulated by advertising techniques. 

when we’re spoken to like a person & not like another step in a marketing funnel, we talk back.

no one wants to feel programmed, 

but that’s exactly what most advertising does nowadays, & also exactly why it fails.

p.s. this is exactly what i look like 2 seconds before mentally clocking out of an ad that thinks it’s smarter than me 😛

you’d think a social media page with 299 million followers would have mentions of its product, but no. 

we often hear about what it means to sell a feeling, but i want to talk you through an actual example. 

after reading this, i want you to look at nike’s instagram page.

📎scroll their grid & you’ll notice their products only show up once every 10 to 11 posts, & the rest? 

posts of athletes repping nike, sporting moments, & pure cinematics that translate what it FEELS like to wear nike.

there’s power emanating out of every single post, & hardly any of them have a DIRECT mention of what nike’s selling, rather, 

they’ve centred themselves around honing that feeling of power, & what it MEANS to wear nike.. 

& in doing that, they’ve entirely eliminated the need to directly mention their product at all. 

because these feels radiate the emotions strong enough, so much so that you’re already leaning into the purchase.

Nike proves it; sell the meaning, & the product sells itself 👏🏻

now THAT’S solid branding, wouldn’t you say?

i don’t even know where to start. 

for those who’ve been here a while, you’ve probably seen me mention in my july roundup that i had started posting on linkedin as an experiment to crack personal branding. 

safe to say, 3 months deep; 
the experiment is officially over, & i’m all in.

i usually post a screenshot and call it a day, but august? it deserved a whole deck.

because this month has been filled with moments that the dashboard just doesn’t reflect on.

from being nominated 5(!!) times to be included in Emma’s creator feature, to not only having my own slide on Prisha’s roundup but also but also reading the sweetest things people had to say about me on it, i’m still reeling from the love. 

& all the dms? the comments? 
i wish i could’ve included more, but this deck wouldn’t have ended. 

my heart = full.

to say i love being on here & genuinely ADORE engaging with all of you would be an understatement.

thank you all for being a part of this digital ecosystem that i’ve steadily been building. i am in awe. 

best believe i’m going to be holding this month close, and carrying it into everything i build next.

🚨 let’s be real, there’s no HACK to grow engagement overnight. but after a 100+ days of consistent posting, i’ve learned a thing or two that have helped accelerate the process. 

disclaimer: this post isn’t going to tell you to “engage for 30 mins before & after you post.” 

i’m telling you what i’ve actually seen move the needle, no bs, let’s go. 

🧚🏻 find. your. crowd.

turn on post notifs for creators you actually vibe with, then dive into their comment sections, that’s where the other sharp voices hang out. scan, analyse what you like, & hit follow. start feeding YOUR feed with creators whose content you actually enjoy. it’s easy to engage meaningfully when you genuinely resonate with the words you’re reading. 

🧚🏻 match effort with effort.

if someone spends time writing a thoughtful comment on your post, don’t just reply with “Yes, true!” because people notice when you brush them off. 

thoughtful replies = recurring engagement, trust me. 

🧚🏻 add your flavour.

value is everywhere on linkedin, but your voice is what you can leverage. be smart, but let your personality peek through. that’s how you stand out in a sea of comments. 

🧚🏻 quit outsourcing your voice.

you can tell when a comment is ChatGPT’d to death. don’t farm engagement because you feel like you NEED to comment, it kills your credibility. 

slow down, process the post, & then add your perspective. & if you don’t know what to say, just scroll?? 

🧚🏻 take it offline.

engagement ≠ the ONLY end goal. 
in the past month, my comments have turned into phone calls, real life coffee chats, & are in the process of turning into collabs. if you enjoy someone’s work, dm them. you’d be surprised where it leads.

remember, content is the invite, conversation is the party. don’t skip the good part.

i’m a horror movie fanatic, no doubt about it.

but would i personally enjoy being handed holy water & a prayer card before watching one in theatres? debatable 🫢

the conjuring’s global release is around the corner, and texas just got an early screening that went.. a little wild?? 

audiences were given holy water+prayer books at the entrance to “set the tone” for what they were about to watch.
but mid screening, a man in the crowd started acting possessed. 

cue some people running out, others whispering “pr stunt??”

whether it went too far is questionable, buuuut, it definitely is a genius way to spike curiosity and ticket sales. 

movie marketing is supposed to build hype before you even step into the theatre, and this one hit the mark.

people are now dissecting whether the possession was real, digging into the true case the movie’s based on, and talking about it everywhere.

aaand that’s how you turn a screening into free global press. 

marketing? nailed.
comfort? questionable.

but if it gets people talking about the movie before it’s even fully out, maybe that’s the win?

curious though, would you still grab your popcorn if the guy next to you started acting possessed? 😭
