(7 tips for making difficult decisions)

➡️ Reversible Decisions - If you can reverse them without major difficulties, make them quickly.

➡️ Irreversible Decisions - If these decisions have major consequences and are irreversible, make them deliberately and carefully.

Tips to help you make those decisions....

→ Visualise the outcomes of each option to gauge their impact.
→ Trust your instincts, but back it up with facts and reasoning.
→ Get advice from people who've been in similar situations.
→ Eliminate options that don't align with your core values.
→ If it's reversible make the decision quickly.
→ Set a deadline for making a decision.
→ Commit 100% to your decision.

I've set goals and failed to achieve them.

I've written down goals and never hit them (here is why).

- I didn't integrate my goals into my daily activities.
- I didn't make my goals smart ( it was a wish list).

If you write goals more like a wish list, here is what happens...

- Unimportant tasks will take priority.
- You won't have daily actions to move you closer to your goals.
- Your action taking will be inconsistent / make it up as you go along.

But there is something worse...

You'll lose confidence in achieving your goals. It will create doubt. You'll have a sneaking suspicion your goals are impossible.

It becomes a vicious circle.

You don't take the goals seriously, so you fail to hit them. You doubt the goal is possible, so you don't want to put effort into them.

It's vicious circle that confirms you can't achieve your goals.

BUT if you do want to hit your goals, you need to make them smart.

You need SMART goals - goals that are clear and actionable. 

SPECIFIC - MEASURABLE - ACTIONABLE - RELEVANT - TIME-BASED

Write down your SMART goals.

Then diarise the actions you need to take.

Example:

Specific: Get more leads per week from social media.

Measurable: 4 Leads per week.

Actionable: Posting 3 times per week, grow my network, offering a lead magnet to new connections.

Relevant: More connections will increase my reach, leads will help me win clients.

Time-bound: By 7th May 2024, I'll be getting 4 leads per week. 

SMART goals are the way to achieve things.

Set your goals, make them SMART and work on them every day.

Change your perspective...

What would you add?

The internet is fuelling unrealistic expectations.

Every day I get an email like this...

"Mike went from $7k a month to $90k per month in 30 days with the XZY method"

One of the big issues with social media is the distorted reality.

It's eating away at our common sense.

Big results, demand serious commitment, action and investment.

Yet - the internet is telling us, how easy it is to work from a beach and become a millionaire with little work.

It's unrealistic marketing nonsense.

The wild claims you often see online are:

- Made up - invented to get you to part with your money.
- Fluke results - not replicable or representative.
- Oversimplified - it's harder than it seems.

If you want big results in anything...

- It will demand serious time and energy.
- It isn't as simple as flicking on a switch.
- It will have setbacks and obstacles.
- It will require you to invest money.
- It won't come from a $47 course.
- It will require total commitment.

Think about it, if world changing results could be so easy...everyone would have them.

What we want to hear is simple, easy and certain.

The medicine we need is commitment, investment and determination.

Nothing great, comes easy.

It's decision.

It's daily action.

It's an investment.

31 vs 41 - No surgery, lol.

My business made me old.

I learned a big lesson between 2014 and 2024.

If you do not make choices...life will force choices on you.

I wasn't making decisions about my business. 

I was letting things unfold, that forced me into working more and earning less (than an employee).

I eventually reached a "enough is enough" moment.

Many at this point will just quit and get a job.

I didn't.

I made the decision to build the business I wanted.

❌ In 2014: I flogged myself for no money.
✅ In 2024: I trebled my price.
🤔 I let go clients that ate my time and were unprofitable.

❌ In 2014: Clients didn't value my time.
✅ In 2024: Clients wait to work with me.
🤔 I made a choice to pursue value-seeking clients.

❌ In 2014: I would sell to anything to anyone.
✅ In 2024: I work with a very specific group.
🤔 I made a choice to narrow what I sell and to whom.

❌ In 2014: My business struggled to make $100k.
✅ In 2024: My business does $1.4m.
🤔 I had a plan and worked on it every day.

❌ In 2014: I focused on costs.
✅ In 2024: I focus investments.
🤔 I realised I had to invest in the right things to grow.

❌ In 2014: I wanted money.
✅ In 2024: I want freedom.
🤔 I realised money is tool not a goal.

❌ In 2014: I competed on price.
✅ In 2024: I sell based on value.
🤔 I decided to sell results focused services.

❌ In 2014: I was unhappy and frustrated.
✅ In 2024: I enjoy what I do.
🤔 I decided to focus on the work I do well and enjoy.

If you want more:

➡️ Time
➡️ Money
➡️ Better Clients

You have to positively choose.

You have to build that by design.

It won't just magically happen.

- What does your ideal business look like?
- Do your prices and services line up that?
- Do your daily actions line up?

If you do not make choices...life won't give you any choice.

You see a police car at your neighbours house.

You'd be curious right?

Of course you would.

If you see blue flashing lights in your street, you'd been keen to find out what's happened.

Curiosity is one of the most powerful drivers of human behaviour.

It has driven innovators, entrepreneurs and change makers to discover incredible things.

Curiosity is also the No.1 reason you get leads and attention.

Information doesn't get you attention.
Information doesn't get you leads.

Having PART OF the information (and wanting to know the rest does).

So, make people curious about how you can help them.

➡️ Curiosity is the reason someone downloads your lead magnet.
➡️ Curiosity is the reason people look at your profile.
➡️ Curiosity is the reason someone stops scrolling.
➡️ Curiosity is the reason you get inbound leads.

Look in your DMs - everyone is trying to give lots of info to CONVINCE you they have a solution for you.

How many are trying to make your CURIOUS about their solution?

➡️ Curiosity is your tool to get attention, get interest and get leads.

These are the 6 common beliefs (that are totally false):

Information is cheap.

Every experience, setback and success has value for someone else.

Your story is a valuable asset.

ChatGPT can give you information.

Google can give you information.

But personal experiences, stories of your journey are more powerful.

Humans love stories.

We love to hear how someone else overcame an obstacle.

We can relate to stories.

Information is cold.

Information is void of emotion.

When you post content, when you speak at events, when you share insights through a blog...

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Fill it will experiences, not just statistics.

Tell the real story, the emotions, the risks, the fear, the fun.

Let people see the big picture - why this matters for you and for them.

Stories create pictures, we think in pictures, we remember in emotions and pictures.

When you share your knowledge, package it in stories.

Human beings think in pictures, your stories and experiences help paint those pictures.

Use your experience to show your value.

Tell your stories.

Doing something once is a fluke. Repeating it is a skill.

The more you do it, the better you get at it. 🔁

→ That's how you build your brand.
→ That's how you build your business.
→ That's how you engineer your success.

How to leverage thought leadership.

(Without it consuming your working week).

I get it.

You have great ideas.

You have insights for your market or industry.

But you don't have the bandwidth to do it.

I've worked with more than 50 subject matter experts, in large and small businesses to get their message out there.

Thought leadership isn't just about sharing ideas, it builds a brand, it opens doors, and positions you as an innovator.

But the time is a challenge.

Writing blogs can often be a big drain on time, so here is how I do it in super fast time.

I use different content formats to build my ideas.

My posts are experiments for my long form content.

This allows me to develop my ideas as I go:

#Step1 - Explore ideas in posts, simple and short thoughts at a high level.
#Step2 - Unpack those in live videos and audio events.
#Step3 - Now, use all of that—and ChatGPT—to convert it into articles.

One of the big challenges is developing ideas.

Don't think of posts as a work of art. 

They are experiments.

So, flip the script, use posts as experiments to develop your long form ideas. Use live events and video to talk it out in discussion formats. Now use all of that (and ChatGPT) to convert it into articles.

The end result - more content, more ideas, more out there... and you can track analytics to develop the ideas which get the most traction.

In 5 hours per month, I can create 3 live discussions and 3 articles.

The No.1 reason people fail at social selling.

Can you pass the 6 second test?

When people are scrolling, you have seconds of their attention.

You have to make the value obvious for them.

So let's do the 6 second test....

Scroll through your profile.
Scroll through your content.

In 6 seconds, could someone figure out...

- What problem you solve.
- Who you solve it for.
- Why they need it.
- How you solve it.

I see a lot of people hedging their bets. They can sell lots of things, to lots of people.

As a result, they blend that into their profile and content.

Guess what happens? 

They sacrifice clarity.

In my book, I talk about why you need a clear offer for the market and how that has to link into your personal brand and your social selling strategy.

My experience was this:

The more clear I was about my offer, the more leads I got. The more I set out my stall and said "this is what I do and who I do it for", the more resonance and impact I could make with my content.

Don't sacrifice clarity for broader appeal.

Ultimately, it's easier to get leads the clearer you are.

If you've got lots of things to sell right now, focus on one thing, get that selling consistently first.
