Hello Summer!

Hello Barbiecue! 💖

This collaboration by the two brands absolutely slays and let me tell you why:

- It’s ICONIC. 
- It’s playful, it’s fun, it’s nostalgic, it’s summer in a bottle.
- It piggybacks on the recent Barbie film and keeps the Barbie conversation going, capitalising on consumer trends. 

It wouldn’t surprise me over the next week when Barbiecue launches we see some creative social/PR integrations for this campaign…

& this is what I’d do if I was working on this project:

1. I’d collab with EL&N London and hold a pop up event where people could order off a special Barbiecue menu. 👀

2. I’d host a Barbiecue in the middle of Hyde Park - anyone could attend, but you must wear pink and bring your own picnic blanket - Good Pair Days would be a great partner here too with iced rose ready to go and their wine boxes and tumblers in a special Barbie pink edition. Chefs kiss 👌🏼

3. Barbie is ultimately for children so you would find Barbie ‘herself’ popping up at Madame Tussauds London at the weekend, giving out Barbiecue samples and Barbie sunglasses to keep the summer sweet for all the kids. 🕶️

Let’s talk about pods…

No… not podcasts.

No… not whale pods either. 🐳 

Engagement pods. 

I am seeing them EVERYWHERE.

If you don’t know what an engagement pod is…

Buckle up whilst I fill you in. 

An engagement pod is a *strategy, where a group of **like-minded individuals agree to comment on each others social media content, to give it a performance ‘boost.’

& it’s a big fat NO from me. 

I’m calling this out for what it is…

A stupid tactic that nobody should be engaging in.

As individuals and brands:

1. You shouldn’t want fake engagement. 
2. These people/brands are likely to be putting out similar content to you, meaning that you will attract more of them - and is that really your target audience?! 
3. It’s completely disingenuous and this engagement will eventually tail off too, leaving you with what - time wasted and a following of the wrong audience? 

I have seen huge creators, including social media professionals advising people to do this and I just want it to stop. ✋🏼

So you might be wondering at this point, how can you tell if an individual or brand is working with a pod? 

1. All the comments will be an iteration of the same phrase and or emojis. 
2. The individuals/brands commenting will be in similar industries (just look at their usernames/page names).
3. They will be actively encouraging it through their posts, language and/or their comments on other posts. 

Bonus tip: These pods can also be spotted commenting on paid ads!

Stay safe out there social media pro’s.

Contrary to popular belief, posting more on social media doesn’t necessarily mean more engagement. ❌ 

In my 10 years of managing social media accounts…

👉🏼 I have worked across social media pages that have posted in excess of 15 times a day.
👉🏼 To those that post sporadically without any posting schedule.
👉🏼 To everything in between.

From these pages I’ve managed, what I’ve learnt is…

It’s all about BALANCE.

The most engaged pages tend to sit somewhere in the middle, when it comes post frequency.

This might look like:

👉🏼 Posting 3 times a week.
👉🏼 Posting stories daily but only 1 grid post a week. 
👉🏼 Posting 20 times throughout a calendar month. 

The key is finding a posting frequency that is maintainable for you as a brand/individual.

Whilst also giving enough opportunity for your audience/community to engage with you.

📣The new social media platform you need to know about…

What we know about Airchat so far:

Airchat is the newest social media app from Silicon Valley, founded by AngelList founder Naval Ravikant and Tinder co-founder Brian Norgard. 

What is Airchat?

➭ Airchat is a push-to-talk, voice-first public messenger with near-perfect transcripts. 

➭ Airchat is a podcast in your pocket. 

➭ Right now it feels very grass roots with an amazing community feel on the platform, think voice notes with strangers who quickly feel like friends. 

What’s the setup of Airchat? 

➭ Users of Airchat (which some people are coining ‘Yappers’) can post to their own profile, comment/reply to others and join channels. 

What are channels on AirChat?

As described by Airchat themselves:

“Channels are generally centered around a topic and occupy a separate space on your home tab, although you can also see posts from channels on your default Following tab. 

➭ There are two kinds of channels: fishbowls and open channels. 

➭ To speak in a fishbowl, you need a unique invite from the owner of the fishbowl. However, you can view any messages posted in the fishbowl. 

➭ In open channels, anybody can speak, but the owner reserves the right to moderate your content. 

➭ As of now, users cannot create channels themselves but can request that admins create them.” 

How can you get access to Airchat? 

➭ Airchat is invite only at this stage. However users get invites to share, once using the app themselves. 

What to expect from Airchat in the coming weeks? 

➭ The Airchat development team are working round the clock with new updates daily, based upon users suggestions. As users continue to join the platform, further optimisation will go hand in hand. 

Predictions for Airchat in the future? 

➭ The way things are progressing on Airchat daily is really exciting, there’s a different feel to Airchat compared to other social media apps that have surfaced over recent years. 

➭ With the rise of podcasts and people using voice notes, there’s a gap in the market for an audio based social media platform. 

➭ For individuals and brands this feels like it could be an authentic way to grow your community, with a personalised approach.

⚠ PSA: New LinkedIn Features!

I didn't expect to see this pop up when browsing a LinkedIn page this morning, but here we go...

This new feature could create more opportunities for companies to connect with their target audience. 

It also turns out, this is just one feature that's part of a the new LinkedIn 'Premium Company Page' offering. 

Not everyone will have visibility of these features yet, so don't worry if you can't!

I'll be doing a deep dive into these new company pages today, but I think this is all round a great move from LinkedIn.

UPDATE:

Cost: $99.99/month per Page or $839.88/annual per Page (30% discount, $360 savings when you buy annual) plus tax. 

Timeline: By June 2024 100% of eligible LinkedIn members will have access.

Have you ever thought of a social media audit as a science experiment?

Well that's exactly how I treat mine...

🡢 I write a hypothesis.
🡢 I test this (the social media audit). 
🡢 Iterate based upon findings.
