Being a marketer has completely ruined my ability to look at advertising or marketing the way most people do.

For example: 

I cannot scroll past an ad without analysing the hook, the CTA, the targeting, the creative choices and whether the landing page actually matches the messaging.

I cannot walk into a shop without instantly assessing their customer journey, signage, brand consistency and thinking how many opportunities they’re missing.

I cannot watch TV without mentally rewriting the script of every commercial and wondering how much the media spend was.

I cannot go to an event without dissecting their content strategy, social coverage, and whether their hashtag is performing.

I cannot see a brand launch without checking the tone of voice, their funnel, their paid strategy and how their ICP will actually respond.

I cannot sit in a café without overhearing someone talk about a purchase and immediately wondering what touchpoint actually made them buy.

And when friends mention a product they love, I somehow always end up steering the conversation into “So where did you first hear about it?”

Marketing isn’t just a job.
