I told myself that I'd try make a conscious effort in sharing a few of many things I've been grateful for through this Thanksgiving Week - so here's day 1:

If you told the teenage me I'd be starting a rugby team, I wouldn't have believed it. Fast forward on 13 years with Valley RFC, and more so yesterday, standing with Samantha Scott, looking at our Valley Pinks team, the impact of sport just became 10x more humbling and clear!

It's definitely not about the scoreboard for us, it's about the special moments and memories our domestic helper team make through sport, and the joy they walk away with - whether at training every Sunday, or when sharing their post-game potluck bites with teammates, competitors, other volunteers or even referees 😅 

It just hits different in retrospect each time I reflect, and what value add we're bringing to this vital demographic of Hong Kong! Apart from providing them free health screenings in this collaboration between Phenomenally Group and Valley RFC, I uncover different examples each time as to why the access to sport and wellness is so crucial - even far beyond the physical/mental benefits!

✅ Day 3 Of My Thanksgiving Week Reflections:
When I first met Kate Wood over 5 years ago through the kind intro of Jenny Fielding and Sharlene Jacquier, I always knew I wanted to find a way to share her 'cancer story' - safe to say, it's been illogically hard to find that 'perfect way' or 'perfect time' to facilitate it through Phenomenally Group 🤷‍♀️ 

Fast forward onto Pink October 2025, I wouldn't have imagined sitting down with a pregnant Kate, her little girl, and John Plester, another early stage breast cancer survivor, sharing their experiences together in what was hopefully an approachable chat. With over 50+ domestic helpers in attendance, I was told it made it bit 'easier' for some of them facing this gruelling topic, whether with their employers, their friends, or in the rare cases when a man's mistaking nipple discharge as spilt ink on his shirt pocket 🫣 

Even if it was a quick dialogue, I value both Kate and John's openness in sharing their lived experiences, and I know it won't be the last time I've asked them to share it because their stories make a difference, as do that of the many others we don't get to hear! 🎗️ 

PS: Special thanks to Chris Man for stopping John during his lunch break at our pink pop up, only to find out he is a survivor...and kudos to John for being such a champ in agreeing to share his experience so instantly!

Last month, we brought back a special edition of our Fill Your Cup coffee club as part of our Pink Run/Walk 2025 community event with HSBC Ability. We were truly honoured to have Kate Wood and John Plester from HSBC share their personal experiences with breast cancer, and how those journeys have reshaped their approach to health, wellbeing, and life.🎗️

Both spoke with such openness and courage, offering a powerful reminder that cancer doesn’t discriminate. Even when caught early, it takes real strength to speak about it, and we’re deeply thankful to both for using their voices to raise awareness and normalise these important conversations. 🙌🏻

Their stories remind us how vital it is to talk about it openly, not just during awareness months, but year-round, as there may be many others around us coming into similar challenges, who may be looking for some sense of hope, that sometimes others’ stories can offer! 💪🏽

Thank you, Kate and John, for your honesty, bravery, and helping us drive our key message of preventive and proactive self and health care for all! 🎀

Day 2 Of My Thanksgiving Week Reflections:
Pushing myself further out of my comfort zone thanks to Phenomenally Group - in terms of working with sports teams beyond Hong Kong to grow the mission, and help save more lives to cancer, through our sports awareness campaigns! 

Grateful for the incredible link ups at the inaugural season of GMR Sports #RugbyPremierLeague leading to fun and quirky awareness collaborations with the winning team (Hyderabad Heroes), and another top 4 finishing team in the 2025 RPL season (Delhi Redz)! 💪 

Seeing how much a charity merchandise sponsorship meant to some of the local and international players was truly humbling and encouraging, while also offering us a creativity booster for more impactful player wellbeing and fan engagement campaigns for 2026 - to grow the 'tackle cancer' and 'protect your ball' mottos even stronger across Rugby India! ✅ 

Needless to say it was a special one getting to work with a tournament held in India, learning how rugby is also helping so many locals out there find pathways to better livelihoods! Although these are all baby steps, small scale campaigns, even if one more life was saved through an earlier preventive and proactive check up or check in, we'll take it as a win!
