I am a Consultant Dietitian, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  In 2018 I founded CityDietitians, a group of world leading dietitians offering clinical consultations, media and PR services and product development expertise. 
  I worked for 5 years as a lecturer and researcher in Nutrition and Dietetics at King's College London and Plymouth University before leaving to pursue my business. I continue to hold guest lectureships and work on my research programme. 
  I am an experienced clinical dietitian with specialist skills in intestinal failure and GI surgery as well as functional bowel disorders such as IBS. I have a specialist interest in the dietary management of stoma function and I research within the field of GI surgery. 
  I contribute to the national and international media on a regular basis.

I’m really looking forward to speaking Food Matters Live, Tastes of Better on Wednesday. 

I’ll be on a panel alongside Claire Baseley, Rick Miller, RD, Louise Durrant PhD RD. and Bertrand Emond on the drive for positive nutrition.

I’m delighted to share that the University of Plymouth have an exciting PhD studentship available, funded by the Faculty of Health, Nutricia and Matthew's Friends Ketogenic Therapies charity . 
 
The project entitled ‘Development and Pilot Testing of a Parent Reported Quality of Life Measure for Childhood Epilepsy Treated with KD Therapy’ aims to develop a tool that is clinically meaningful, family-centred and fit for purpose. This project builds upon the findings of the CORE-KDT study. https://lnkd.in/efykJfwz 
 
This is a wonderful opportunity for a keto dietitian or other experienced health professional to undertake a programme of research in this exciting clinical area.

Plenty to digest as we hit the halfway point on Day Two 💭
 
Here are some talking points and takeaways from the morning:
 
• Health-by-stealth is becoming a massive focus for food manufacturers in food and drink, with many now actively seeking to shape consumer eating habits to be healthier and more sustainable. But as Gail Stevenson, Head of Product Insights at Tesco, stressed, reformulated products should lead with taste - "the number one concern" for consumers. 
 
• On our positive nutrition panel, gut health and personalisation were the hot topics, although concerns were raised that commercial messaging in these spaces is outpacing research and putting vulnerable consumers at risk. “Right now, there are a lot of claims being made around the gut microbiome that may not be true for the consumer,” said Rick Miller, Food & Drink Associate Director for Specialised Nutrition at Mintel. “Nutrition is a very young science, and the microbiome is an especially nascent field; we need to be very careful about the commercialisation of early-stage research,” added Claire Baseley, Industry Nutritionist and Regulatory Expert.
 
• Speaking to an insights room packed full of leading food and drink brands, The Jamie Oliver Group's CCO Megan Van Someren urged NPD professionals to “make products convenient; make them fun and solve a problem for somebody whilst doing it.” But food brands must be responsible in their messaging and not go beyond the evidence, warned Sophie Medlin, Chair of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) for London: “Wherever desperation lies, sadly, people will be waiting to exploit it. Be very careful in your messaging that you’re not exploiting vulnerable people.” 
 
• We've all heard of regenerative agriculture, but we shouldn't overlook the value of regenerative aquaculture schemes in the process: "Initiatives on land and sea need to collaborate more going forward" said Alice Leguay, Strategy Advisor for Bright Tide.

💩Did you know? 1 in 400 Brits poo less than once a week.

Yep, that one shocked us too. Some of our edit team manage more than that before our Monday morning meeting! 

But that's just one of the many surprising facts we've learned about poo while working with the amazing Sophie Medlin and the wider Heights team.

They asked us to help them create some educational videos about topics related to our health, and today we're thrilled to release the first of them: Poo School, on their refreshed YouTube channel.
