I've been thinking. đź’ Do you get great ideas that don't propel your life to where you want it to be? I do. Now I curate them. Here's why. When it comes to bringing those ideas to life, your brain is already at "no". You don't have to do anything to let those ideas slide into a forgettable memory. Build on them. So, why would you connect with or follow me on LinkedIn? I post and write articles to connect ideas, people and products together. I talk about building on ideas and also about agriculture. I am a farmer by choice. I have an off-farm full-time job. Along with my beautiful wife and children we farm milking goats. We also make and market handmade soap with the milk. Farming and marketing soap is a long haul effort. It requires intensive daily effort from the family and myself. When it comes to buying a different type of soap the world is already at no. You don't have to do anything to get a no response. You have to do a lot to get to a yes. You have to build a yes. Making soap from goat milk soap for sensitive-skin was once just an idea. As an idea, just like night time dreams, it can slip between the warm sheets in seconds. So can ideas brought to work, or a sales conversation. Ideas have to make sound financial sense. As 2021 rolled into 2022 I realised my finances weren't adding up. I thought, how do I turn $1 into $2, one thousand into two thousand? One option is to get Brian G Burns sales training, jump on a plane and start a SAAS Sales career in Sydney, Australia. The goat farm? The family? The faith Community? Well, perhaps I should consider an alternative. As 2022 turned into 2023, I had a dramatic career change. I am now a Team Leader with OCS New Zealand, in Te Anau. How do I feel about not working full time in selling? I'm building sales skills from a firmer financial foundation. I still feel great about selling. In my role at OCS I meet strangers, help them make decisions and feel at ease. I trust that as I navigate my way from here, opportunities to sell will pop up. I'll successfully guide some people through their decision-making process to generate an outcome that works well for them. Sometimes when I'm herding a milking goat, she picks up hay or finds a juicy tuft of grass, and it seems like she won't move on. So it is with customers. Sometimes the best way to sell something is let salesperson do it. I'm one of them. Our family business, run by the Smith Soapmakers, farms and creates goat milk soap and a skincare stick.
