Stacey Champagne is the Founder of Women's Cybersecurity Alliance (WCA), helping high-performing women in cybersecurity become C-suite executives and leading experts. With over a decade of experience building and leading cybersecurity programs at Fortune 500s and startups alike, Stacey uses her personal experience plus professional training in coaching to enable women to achieve their biggest cybersecurity career goals. I would like to remind cybersecurity event organizers that there are 12 states in the US that have a total abortion ban with very limited exceptions.

This includes popular conference states like…

Another four states have a 6-week abortion ban.

… South Carolina

To put this in perspective, I as an IVF patient will be 4 weeks and 3 days (possibly) pregnant when I take my first pregnancy test. 

Weeks are counted from your first day of your last menstrual period.

Not from the day an embryo is formed and implanted.

Up to 1 in 5 known pregnancies end in miscarriage. About half of all women who have a miscarriage need a D&C (an abortion) because tissue gets stuck, there’s heavy bleeding, and/or an infection.

These stats put any pregnant person traveling to a state with abortion restrictions at risk of not receiving the healthcare they require in the event of an emergency.

- If you want more women to attend and speak at your events, host the event in a state that does not have abortion restrictions or ban.

- If you are going to host an event in a state with abortion restrictions or ban, have a safety plan for pregnant attendees to get a medical evacuation out of the state.

Otherwise women’s decisions to attend your conference can become life-or-death.
