The Real Problem with Modern Link Building

The problem with many so-called “Link Building Experts” is that they started doing LB with zero experience, thinking it’s only about exchanging links.

And now we see the results everywhere…
❌ Low-quality link exchanges
❌ Irrelevant guest posts
❌ No contextual requests
❌ Brands wasting thousands on links that don’t move the needle

The truth is:
Link Building is NOT only about quick exchanges or link swaps.
It’s one of the most complex and strategic parts of SEO. When done right, it has a huge impact on your website and growth.

I admire all copywriters!


I hate writing. Yeah, you heard me right. Even though I work in SEO, I really hate writing.

That’s why I admire everyone who enjoys it and even turns it into their job.

In my previous roles, my bosses forced me to write articles for agency websites. After my second article, I told my boss that if I had to write one more, I’d just pay someone to do it instead of me. 😅

This year, I started being a bit more active here on LinkedIn and created at least a small habit of writing/practicing through my posts.

Did it help? I’d say the hate turned into not liking it. 😅 I still don’t enjoy it, but at least it’s not the same level of suffering as before.

You might say that nowadays, with all these AI tools, writing is super easy. Yes, it might be! But I write all my posts myself and use AI only for editing because I want to work on and improve my weaknesses.

And that’s why I always tell the copywriters I meet that I admire them. They might not save lives like doctors or firefighters, but they definitely save someone from suffering :)

Autumn Escape 2025

I recently returned from this year’s Autumn Escape, and what a great escape it was again! 🙌

That was officially my third and unofficially my fifth Autumn Escape.

But first, what is Autumn Escape? 👀
❌ Are we a fancy coliving? NO
❌ Are we the best-awarded pop-up coliving? NO

✅ We’re a group of friends who want to hang out together, get inspired, learn from each other, and, of course, escape the bad autumn weather.

Over the last two years, we organized it in Albania and Sicily. This year, it was on the Greek island of Crete. It was a lot about souvlaki, tzatziki, ouzo, beach time, and good vibes.

For me, this was one of the best locations we’ve picked so far for our Autumn Escape. It ticked so many boxes for my ideal base. Even though we were a smaller group than last year, we really enjoyed our time together, and we’ve already even picked the location for next year’s escape. But more on that next time… 😉

What do Link Building and LinkedIn Connections have in common?

For me personally, both need to go through a complete analysis and my personal checklist before any request gets accepted.

I review every single request, whether we’re talking about Link Building or LinkedIn Connections.

Here is my Link Building checklist:

From a website perspective:
✅ DR and traffic (yes, I check these factors, but I don’t care whether your DR is 99 or 39, I look at it from a different angle)
✅ Traffic by location
✅ Backlink profile and top-level domains
✅ Topical authority
etc.

From a specific page perspective:
✅ How old the article is and whether it brings any traffic; if it does, where the traffic comes from
✅ How many external links the article already has
✅ Whether there is already a backlink to the same topic
✅ Contextual insertion
✅ Anchor text
etc.

Yes, my list is pretty long and at least 90% of the boxes need to be checked before I accept your LB request. That’s why collaborating with me is not always super easy (some folks could tell you 😄), but it’s crucial for a long-term strategy and consistent growth of my clients.

And what’s my LinkedIn Connections checklist?

I’ll keep that one for myself 😄
