I spend my days obsessing over how to enable high-performing, purpose-driven organizational culture by blending behavioral science, product design, and a touch of game theory. Whether we’re helping enterprises gamify security adoption or guiding dev teams to take ownership of their work, my mission is the same: make people want to do the right thing - and enjoy it!

I champion environments where change feels exciting (not exhausting), where culture isn’t a buzzword but a buildable asset, and where product experiences motivate people to grow, share, and succeed together.

What an end to Katilyst's 2025 conference season! 🙌 💙 

Last week, I joined Dustin Lehr and Marisa Fagan for two of our favorite conferences, OWASP® Foundation Global AppSec an #ThreatModCon - and boy was it an awesome experience! We met up with old friends, shared our experiences via our talks and workshops, and we continued to raise the banner for #SecurityChampions everywhere!

Some quick highlights:

- Katilyst really showed up for the AppSec community, hosting our Happy Hour and for the first time ever, being a conference sponsor!
- Marisa and I hosted our Dungeons & Dragons themed threat modeling workshop, with amazing audience participation and lots of great feedback (special shout-out to Michael Novack for the thoughtful notes!)
- Dustin gave two energizing talks, both centered around how we motivate Champions to be security advocates.
- Several other speakers were generous sharing their experiences with Champion programs. In particular, I'm so grateful for Hernan Palombo, Ph.D. giving us a glimpse into the ever-evolving program at Workday.

Thank you to everyone who made time and space to have such thoughtful conversations around security culture, and to my friends and new connections who made this trip the high point of the year! Omigosh it’s nearly 4pm and I haven’t made a post about OWASP® Foundation Global AppSec conference yet! What’s the deal??? 😅

It’s been such a fun first day, and I’m grateful to have caught up with many friends - old and new alike - while spending my morning volunteering at the registration desk. Some quick observations on day 1:

- The energy has felt palpable all day. Passionate conversations, super insightful talks, and lots of smiles and laughter (love to see it!)
- The Puppy Room was such a unique addition to the conference this year. I took 10 minutes for a puppy break, and it was an instant stress relief 🐶 ❤️ 
- Endor Labs brought all the cool, with a highlight of the Space Badge, created by Bryce Owen, and a very fun “make your own movie cover” photo studio (I went with Star Wars, of course)

There’s so much more to say but I’ll save it for now. I’m stoked for Cheyenne Seur’s update on the Security Champions Project maturity model, and then it’s off to Katilyst’s Happy Hour! 🍻😁 See you there!

T-minus 24 hours until Marion Harris and I travel to Washington D.C. for our respective conferences! 

I'm excited for the upcoming OWASP® Foundation Global AppSec and #ThreatModCon conferences, and I'm incredibly grateful to have an opportunity to share the experience with my wife. She's stood by me as we've worked so hard to grow Katilyst, and to have her support for our last conference stop of the year makes my heart full. ❤️ 

Lots to look forward to this week: Dustin Lehr's talks at both OWASP Global and TMC, our Dungeons & Dragons threat modeling workshop w/ Marisa Fagan, our happy hour event, and catching up with old friends. It's going to be a great visit to our nation's capital. I hope to see you there!

It’s day 2 of OWASP® Foundation Global AppSec DC! What better way to start the day than with a keynote from 😷 Adam Shostack? His perspective on the concept of “risk” was refreshing and you could feel the audience really leaning in to the challenges he posed.

Next up is an insightful #SecurityChampion talk with Hernan Palombo, Ph.D.! Game on!
