I once told a senior leader at Apple that I couldn’t make his 8.30am meeting. 

Because I had to go to the gym.

His response?

He was totally fine with it. 

Why?

Because you can’t promote well-being to consumers and then not practice what you preach internally.

4,000 jobs will be cut by Christmas.

The announcement came the week after Thanksgiving.

I've been here before.

December 13th, 2013 I was let go from my job.

It was one of the worst Christmases I've ever had.

The financial stress. The uncertainty. The timing.

It wasn't just about losing a job. It was about losing hope during a season that's supposed to be about connection and joy.

And now, thousands of people are facing the same thing.

Here's what frustrates me most:

Layoffs are part of corporate life. I get it.

But the timing? That's a choice.

Announcing 4,000 job cuts the week after Thanksgiving, with most gone by Christmas, isn't just poor planning.

It's cruel.

If you're one of the 4,000 affected, I see for you.

I know how this feels.

You're not alone.

To the companies making these decisions:

You can do better.

Layoffs happen. But you can absolutely time them better.

Consider the human impact.

Consider the holidays.

Consider that these aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet.

They're people with families, bills, and plans.

Timing matters.

Hey Job Seekers... stop ending your interviews with weak questions.

A Google interviewer literally said to one of my clients: “Kudos to you for asking smart questions.”

Before confirming they'll be moving to the next round. 

Most candidates will never hear that.

Because “Do you have any questions for me?” is one of the most misunderstood parts of the entire interview process.

Here’s the truth:

You know it’s coming.
You can prepare for it.
And you have 100% control over it.

Yet most people waste it by asking safe, shallow, forgettable questions that do nothing to position them as top-tier talent.

Here’s what my client asked to get that reaction:

1️⃣ “Which stakeholders does this role work most closely with, and where could I add value in navigating or improving those relationships?”

2️⃣ “What skills or qualities will matter most in the person you choose for this role?”

3️⃣ “If we were sitting here 12 months from now and I’d done an exceptional job, what would you want to see me achieve?”

That last one is elite.  You’re guiding the interviewer to imagine you already in the role — a powerful psychological move.

Here are three more high-impact questions:

4️⃣ “How can I come into this role and be a real asset to your team?”

5️⃣ “What challenges are you facing that you’d love this role to solve for?”

6️⃣ “What are the immediate priorities for this role in the first 90 days, and where could I have the biggest impact quickly?”

And finally — the closer: A classic sales technique flipped for interviews...

7️⃣ “Based on our conversation, which parts of my background stand out as most valuable for this role?”

This gets the interviewer to sell you back to yourself. If they’re telling you why you’re a great fit… you’re winning.

Ask a combination of these and you won’t just finish strong — you’ll finish unforgettable.

I resigned a week after a Teams call that changed my whole career.

Years ago, I was working for a global corporation.

Loved my boss.
Loved my team.
Loved the products we made.

But a Teams call sealed my fate.

🎬 The Scene

Late afternoon in London. Four of us jumped on a video conference with our global team.

While waiting for Singapore to join, the most senior person on the call brought up an ex-colleague who'd just left for a competitor.

And the gossip began.

Personal attacks. Mocking remarks. Derogatory comments about their decision to leave.

Three others on the global side joined in.

Our side stayed silent. We were still friends with this person and respected their choice.

💡 The Realisation

I left that call fuming.

Went for a walk to calm down.

And something clicked.

I had zero respect for this senior leader. None.

Our values didn't align. And this misalignment had been causing me friction for months.

But seeing it play out so blatantly confirmed what I already knew.

A week later, I resigned.

📚 The Lesson

You must respect the people above you.

If you want to thrive and do your best work, you need to respect senior leadership.

If you don't, start making plans to move on.

Because that values misalignment will keep causing friction. And you'll feel powerless to change it.

✅ What You Can Do

Spend a few weeks taking notes.

Write down every moment you feel stressed or friction in your role. What's happening? Be specific.

Revisit each scenario a few days later and ask: what was causing me stress here?

Your answer reveals your values.

We can't all resign immediately. But recognising your values helps you understand your role, your team, and your leaders better.

If your values align, you probably love your job.

If they don't, you've found your answer.

I see you sending out your 47th application this week.

My client created her own job - at a company she had never worked for.

She came to me stuck in FinTech, moving further away from what she loved about marketing

She'd spent years taking "whatever jobs she could get". No time to reflect. No clarity on what was next.

It's about having the confidence to ask for it, even when the job posting says something different.

‘Should I quit my toxic job or stick it out?’

Hey Agency folk, here’s why no-one is hiring you on the client side.

You know you could do your client's job with your eyes closed.

You're sick of making them look good while you stay stuck.

But every recruiter call? Another agency role.
Every application? Silence.
Every network conversation? Leads nowhere.

The reality is harsh.

If you don't move soon, you won't move at all.

You think someone will just see your talent and hire you?

They won't.

Because you don't know how to translate your agency work into client-side language.

You don't know how to de-risk yourself to hiring managers.

If you actually want to move:

1️⃣ Get clear on what you want

Pick one industry. One role. One company size.

"Marketing" isn't specific enough. "Brand Marketing Manager at a Series B SaaS company" is.

2️⃣ Translate your work into their language

Stop: "managed 12 client accounts."
Say: "owned end-to-end marketing strategy for 3 SaaS brands, driving 40% growth in pipeline."

Stop: "executed campaigns."
Say: "launched product positioning that generated 500 qualified leads."

Stop: "collaborated with clients."
Say: "partnered with C-suite to define go-to-market strategy."

Your agency experience IS client-side experience. You just need to frame it that way.

3️⃣ De-risk yourself in conversations

"I've built marketing strategies from scratch for 8 brands. I know how to own outcomes, not just execute briefs."

"I thrive without hand-holding. My clients trust me to run their entire function."

"I've worked across product launches, rebrands, and growth campaigns. I don't need training on the fundamentals."

Address their concerns before they even ask.

It's not going to land in your lap.
You have to make it happen.
