The PIPPP principle: * Proactive improvement of prediction and prevention for Product creation . . . . Right First Time * We know that 85% of the cost of manufacturing a product has to do with the original design, so in other words, the decisions that went into the design of the product is what’s costing the most money! * This is why Conceptual Design is a very essential process in the product development since poor design is the root cause of around 80% of product defects and 60% of the failures occurring in the products’ warranty period. * Investing in preventive (Good Quality) activities lowers the Cost of Poor Quality (CnQ), whilst, at the same time and pace, the level of maturity & compliance of your baseline design increases towards the goal of 100% by CDR. * Which is why spending 15% more time up-front in (thinking) Design will save 25% in Non-Value-Added corrections during production! * A top priority is a 100% effort in preventing a poor design from being released, that way the CnQ can be reduced or eradicated! * Improvement in prediction of 'what-if's' for prevention of NC's in product conception . . . . Right First Time, is what I do. * Successful products with a low CnQ use a Live 'Control Plan', which is used and updated throughout the product life-cycle. Any NC is traceable back to the CP where FMEAs can be investigated as to how & why it occurred and then mitigated by updating the FMEAs and improving the design or process, or both. * Experience counts. * I do first, then I coach others in how-to correctly use APQP; DoE, DFMEA/PFMEA, KCs/Cti, Control Plan, MSA/SPC, PPS, including the philosophy of mind-bending to embrace the acknowledgment in that some things need to change, from the bottom up, to the top down. * Quality first, is a transformation to deliver Right First Time on Quality, Time and Cost to enable trouble-free Customer Line, and to meet Safety and Customer expectations
