I’ve had a lot of titles in my career. The two greatest are Dad and Coach. Both require patience, trust, love, dedication, humility and wisdom. Both can change the world. As the Founder of Grandview & Co, I coach owners of Registered Investment Advisors and wirehouse advisors who are considering a transition to independence. After 26 years at PaineWebber / UBS and five years as the CEO and Founding Partner of independently-owned $700M Great Diamond Partners, I understand both the wirehouse and RIA worlds. As someone who is never satisfied with the status quo and always interested in emerging opportunities, I founded Grandview & Co to address the needs of my nation-wide industry peers, whom I deeply care about and who provide me with constant inspiration, feedback, and support. What I Believe • The industry needs to have a massive impact on society. There are incredible opportunities for firms to distinguish themselves. • It is difficult to balance multiple roles and responsibilities as a leader, allocating enough time to the highest-impact activities. As a result, the development and execution of strategy suffers, as does job satisfaction. • Many leaders lack exposure to strategic thinkers to help explore new ideas and solve challenges. A group of smart, caring peers can answer just about any challenge. Most issues we face transcend the industry and therefore it's smart to learn from other industries. • Technology and processes can enhance client relationships and lead to better outcomes, rather than detract from them. • Carefully curated and connected strategic partners lead to better results for all. • For many, the independent world is better than the captive world. There are many outlets for independence, and it isn’t for everyone. • I don't have all the answers- if I don't know the answer I'll work with my network to get it. • We need to focus on our own well-being and those we care about.
