A Customer Success Manager is responsible for developing customer relationships that promote retention and loyalty. Their job is to work closely with customers to ensure they are satisfied with the services they receive and to improve upon areas of dissatisfaction. Customer success departments are relatively new and are used mainly in technical companies, specifically in software. Customer Success Managers often provide technical support to customers with the goal to keep customers satisfied with the business’s products.

Customer Success Managers may supervise customer success staff and report to a general manager or business manager, making them middle-management level officers.

So here’s the deal: my husband hates being on camera.

And by “hates,” I mean actively protests. Hence the middle finger in this photo. Romantic, I know.

But honestly? It got me thinking about Customer Success (because apparently, I can’t turn that part of my brain off).

Some customers are exactly like this: they don’t want to be on camera, they don’t want the spotlight, they don’t want your shiny deck, they just want things to work.

And when we keep pushing the “engage! join the call! turn your camera on!” energy, they’ll give us the metaphorical middle finger too.

👉 The real CS flex isn’t getting everyone to show up the way you like & it’s meeting people where they are.

Some customers want a 1-hour deep dive. Others want a 3-line email and peace. Both deserve great success.

So yeah, my husband might hate cameras, but he reminded me of a truth:
Not everyone shows up the same way and that’s okay.
