How can you call yourself Australian when you don’t even speak English?

That one sentence shattered her. 💔

Australian-born.
Raised in Venezuela.

Fabiola Campbell sold everything for a one-way ticket home 
To the country on her passport and in her heart.

And with one sentence from the immigration officer, 
her belonging cracked wide open.

How many of us have heard it too?

“Go back to where you come from.”
“Speak English.”
The mocking of an accent, 
the side-eye, the silent exclusion.

Every rejection bottled up.

Until one day, she said, no more.

Her eyes burned with conviction. ✨
To build a community where migrant women belong, fully, proudly, loudly.

As her coach, I’ve witnessed her do the deep, invisible work, healing from years of racism and microaggressions. 

And she did.
She turned pain into purpose.

🔥 She founded Professional Migrant Women (PMW) 
now a family of thousands.
Their mantra?
“Our accent is our superpower.”

🔥She led the publication of Undefeated 
A book that captures the stories of 53 migrant women’s

A dream 
almost crushed before it even began.

Because in her village,
girls didn’t play cricket.

They watched from the sidelines.
Learned early to shrink their dreams,


But not Amanjot Kaur

Not the carpenter’s daughter
who watched her father come home

with sawdust on his hands
and conviction in his eyes.

Handed her her first bat
crafted lovingly by him


An act of defiance to

“Log kya kahenge.”
“What will people say?”


That if no one makes space for you 
Craft your own.



To every academies that said “no girls allowed.”
To every boys who laughed and taunted.
To every rules that were never made for her.

She showed up.
Again and again. 


And as Amanjot Kaur lunged forward
and took that winning catch at the World Cup Final 🏆 

The nation soared 🎉🎉🎉
The world soared 🎉🎉🎉



Because 

when one person dares to defy “what will people say,”

An entire generation learns to dream louder.

I’d rather melt into the wall than walk into a networking event. 🫣

That’s what he said.

Tongue-tied.
Overthinking every sentence.
Cringing at awkward silences.
😰😰😰

But this time

He came back pumped 💪
Eyes bright. 
Something had changed.

Before the event, he has been experimenting with new techniques
I shared with him

The lack of social capital among leaders of colour has been identified as one of the key barriers to leadership advancement 

> 77% of surveyed agreed that decisions about hiring and promotions are made through informal networks which they struggled to access


This time when asked what would he experiment
He said to me,
I’m going to charm. 😎

I warmly replied,
Don’t charm.

But go in with the mindset of
I’m going to like whoever I meet. 💖

So he tried.

He went in with that intention to like whoever he met.

His tone softened.
His eyes twinkled.
His body language relax.

He asked open questions.
Built on what others said.
Listened, really listened. 👂

And something beautiful happened.

People opened up.
Conversations flowed.
Laughter came easily.

For the first time, he thoroughly enjoyed the room.
That in the past would have left him drained. 


He learned 

When we enter a room with the mindset “I will like whoever I meet,” 
Our tone, body language, and presence radiates warmth that draws others in

It’s not charm.
It’s logical.

Because
People like the people who like them. ❤️😍

What triggers us the most is often the test that reveals what our true values are.


Ever played the values card game or scrolled through a long list of “core values” trying to choose yours?

I've done that and still felt unsure.
Until I learned this 👇

You see,

I get really triggered by 
lateness.
Last minute cancellations.
People not doing what they said they would do.

Inside, I’d start to boil.
🤬

Telling stories in my head like:
“They’re being dishonest.”
“They don’t respect other peoples’ time.”
 “They’re selfish.”
 “They’re disrespectful.”
 …and blah and blah and blah

The more I thought about it, the more upset I became.

And when I looked back, aiyo, 
A bit too much right ???

Then I realised something powerful.

My reaction wasn't about others 
It was my values being triggered.

I value “Doing what I say I will do.”
Its integrity. 

You see,

Our values aren’t just passive beliefs.

They shape the story we tell ourselves

And that story drives our emotional reactions when someone behaves in a way that contradicts it.

The stronger the reaction, the stronger that value is to us. 


And here’s the kicker,

When others know what triggers us, they also know how to use it against us 
To paint us as “too emotional” or “difficult.”

So protect our triggers.
Own them.
Name them before someone else uses them against us.

When you understand the link between your values and your reactions, you stop being easily manipulated and start being being composed and in control. 

Because 

Our values defines us, it can also blind us, 
unless we learn to see through our own values.
