2 months ago, I sent a cold DM to a law school dean.
It started with: "Totally understand if you're not looking for this but..."

I offered to run a LinkedIn workshop for The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law students, showing them how to polish their profiles and network strategically for job opportunities. 

She said yes! 

Yesterday, more than 80 students packed the classroom for my LinkedIn workshop. 

But the real validation came after.

My inbox flooded with messages from students sharing how the workshop had already changed their approach to job searching from passive to proactive. 

Here's what I shared:

One of the best pieces of news I’ve heard this year

(and it doesn’t even involve me):

A while back, my mom asked if I could help review a college essay.

That’s how I met Lauren Ko, a high school student with more ambition and drive than most adults I know (myself included). 

Some personal statements try to turn an ok achievement into an “I cured cancer at 17" moment. 

But Lauren didn't need to exaggerate. 

She led efforts to pass a local school bond to improve her high school’s facilities. 

She broke down financial reports in plain language for her school paper for her classmates to understand and showed up to board meetings to explain to adults on how the bond would impact her classmates.

The bond passed. And she was ecstatic, even though she’s graduating and won’t be around to benefit.

Every draft she sent for me to read was a joy to read. 

I found out she got a full ride!!! to Vanderbilt, where she will be attending next year. 

We grabbed boba to celebrate.

Honestly, I couldn't be more excited for her because she deserves this.
